“Building Capacity to Save Lives Through Basic Life Support (BLS) Training”

GTA Foundation successfully conducted a two-day Training of Trainers on Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals on 9-10 July 2026 at the Local Development Training Academy, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur.

The training brought together healthcare professionals from 8 different districts under the project "Effectiveness of Cascade Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for Ambulance Drivers in Nepal" funded by Laerdal Foundation. Participants enhanced their knowledge and practical skills through interactive sessions on Adult BLS, AED, Pediatric and Infant BLS, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO), and cascade training approaches for ambulance drivers.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Binay Rauniyar, Consultant Cardiologist, Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, for his valuable support and guidance. Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to our American Heart Association (AHA) Certified BLS/ACLS Trainers, Ms. Roji Shakya and Ms. Deoki Saru, for facilitating highly engaging and hands-on learning sessions.

We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the GTA Foundation BLS project team for their dedication, teamwork, and unwavering support in the successful planning, coordination, and implementation of this training. Special thanks to Mr. Deepak C. Bajracharya, Executive Director; Mr. Ksh*tij Karki, Program Director; Mr. Pramod R. Bajracharya, Operations Director; Dr. Priyadarshini Shah Singh, Program Coordinator and BLS Project Supervisor; and Ms. Lalita Awal, Intervention, Research and Development Officer, whose collective leadership, coordination, and commitment were instrumental in the successful delivery of this program.

We would also like to thank all participating healthcare professionals for their enthusiastic participation and commitment. As future BLS trainers, they will play a vital role in strengthening emergency response systems by delivering high-quality cascade BLS training to ambulance drivers in their respective districts.
Together, we are investing in stronger pre-hospital emergency care and working towards improving survival outcomes from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Nepal.

"Reflecting, Learning, and Preparing for the Next Phase"

On 1 July 2026, GTA Foundation conducted a Debriefing Meeting of the BLS Baseline Survey at the GTA office for the project, "Effectiveness of Cascade Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for Ambulance Drivers in Nepal."

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr. Binay Rauniyar, Principal Investigator of the project and Cardiologist at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre. During the session, our research assistants shared their field experiences, key findings, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations from the baseline survey. The discussion provided valuable insights to strengthen the upcoming Training of Trainers (ToT) and subsequent project activities.

We thank Dr. Rauniyar for his valuable guidance and our research team for their dedication and hard work throughout the baseline survey.

“Together Against AMR”

GTA Foundation successfully conducted a “Training of Trainers on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS), and Biosafety & Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)” for Veterinary Service Providers.

Through interactive learning sessions, discussions, and practical activities, participants explored the principles of antimicrobial stewardship, biosecurity, infection prevention and control, effective communication with farming communities, and facilitation skills to support future capacity-building efforts.

This initiative is part of the “Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for Veterinary Service Providers and Farming Communities in Nepal”, implemented by GTA Foundation in collaboration with the Henry Ford Health Global Health Initiative. Together, we are advancing the One Health approach by promoting responsible antimicrobial use and strengthening the capacity of veterinary professionals to safeguard animal, human, and environmental health.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our facilitators, Dr. Linda Kaljee and Mr. Tyler Prentiss from the Henry Ford Health Global Health Initiative, and Dr. Sikesh Manandhar and Dr. Nabaraj Shrestha from the Department of Livestock Services, for generously sharing their expertise and experience.

A heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their active engagement, enthusiasm, and commitment to advancing antimicrobial stewardship and the One Health approach in Nepal.

GTA Foundation successfully conducted a one day Training to the Research Assistants for Baseline Data Collection of the research project "Effectiveness of Cascade Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for Ambulance Drivers in Nepal" on 15th June, 2026 at GTA Office, Sanepa.

The training focused on project objectives, survey tools, data management procedures, ethical considerations, and mock practices to ensure high-quality and standardized data collection.

Grateful to all participants for their active engagement and commitment toward generating reliable evidence that will support program planning and impact assessment.

GTA Foundation successfully hosted its monthly Knowledge Café on the theme "Emergency and Disaster Management", featuring an insightful session by Dr. Surendra Bahadur Panday.

Drawing on more than 35 years of national and international experience in humanitarian response, public health, and development, Dr. Panday shared valuable perspectives on disaster preparedness, emergency response systems, coordination mechanisms, and lessons learned from working with international organizations, including UNHCR.

The session provided a meaningful platform for learning, dialogue, and knowledge exchange among participants, reinforcing the importance of preparedness, resilience, and collaborative action in addressing emergencies and disasters.

Honoured to share that the Zero-Su***de International, along with the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, Nepal, and governments and organizations from multiple countries, co-organized the official side event, “A Global Pursuit of Su***de Prevention: Turning Evidence into Action”, at the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

As the Leading Secretariat of the Zero-Su***de International Asia Alliance, GTA Foundation has been actively involved in supporting the successful organization of this event in collaboration with governments, partners, and key stakeholders.

It is truly a privilege to contribute to such an important global platform, bringing together leaders, experts, and changemakers committed to advancing health worldwide. We are grateful for the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, foster collaborations, and contribute toward shaping stronger and more equitable global health systems.

The GTA Foundation team was honored to participate in the Public Health Conference 2026: “Advancing Public Health – A Convergence of Experience, Emerging Voices, and Innovations in Health Systems and Digital Health”, organized by the Consortium of Academic Institutions of Public Health in Nepal (CAIPHEN) at Dhulikhel Hospital, Dhulikhel.

The conference brought together public health professionals, researchers, academicians, and emerging leaders to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and explore innovative approaches to strengthening health systems and advancing digital health.

We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders, learn from experts in the field, and contribute to conversations shaping the future of public health in Nepal and beyond.

Continuing our Knowledge Café learning series, GTA Foundation hosted an engaging session on 24th April 2026 on “Bridging the Gap: Health Equity and Social Determinants in Maternal and Child Health across LMICs.”

We were honored to have Dr. Rajeeb Kumar Sah, Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Huddersfield and Strategic Lead International for the School of Human and Health Sciences, as our speaker. With a background as a medical doctor and extensive expertise in global health, his work focuses on mental health, maternal and child health, and health inequalities. His research highlights the importance of social determinants of health and amplifying the lived experiences of marginalized populations through interdisciplinary and community-engaged approaches.

The session was insightful, thought-provoking, and encouraged meaningful dialogue on advancing health equity in low- and middle-income countries.
