Israeli Embassy Team Spends a Meaningful Day at Tulasi Foundation
Kathmandu, Lalitpur – The family of the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu spent a meaningful day engaging in various fun activities with the children and elderly at Tulasi Foundation, located in Nakhudol, Lalitpur. On this occasion, the embassy also provided the foundation with essential food supplies and other necessities as a gesture of support.
Tulasalaya Ashram is an institution dedicated to orphans and senior citizens, founded by Mrs. Saru Subedi. She worked as a caregiver in Israel for seven years before returning to Nepal and using her own resources to establish Tulasalaya Ashram, providing shelter and care for orphaned and helpless individuals.
Through the Tulasalaya Ashram, run by the Tulasi Foundation, numerous individuals suffering from mental health issues have been rehabilitated. According to the founder, 58 individuals who had been struggling with mental health conditions have successfully recovered and returned home, while 41 orphaned and abandoned children continue to reside at the ashram.
Currently, the ashram provides shelter to orphaned infants as young as four months old. Children of various age groups have found a safe haven within the organization. With deep emotion, Mrs. Subedi recalled rescuing a 20-day-old baby girl who had lost her mother at birth.
Since 2010, the Israeli Embassy has been celebrating ‘Good Deeds Day’ annually. As part of this initiative, the embassy collaborates with various organizations to conduct volunteer programs and support communities in need. This year, embassy staff, along with members of the ‘Shalom Club Nepal,’ visited the Tulasi Foundation to extend their support.
During the visit, Israeli Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass highly praised the remarkable efforts of Mrs. Saru Subedi, who has been running a shelter for 40 children and a rehabilitation center for individuals with mental health challenges, using resources earned from her work in Israel and her generous heart. He expressed his deep admiration, stating that such noble work is being carried out every day, all year round. He further shared that he and the embassy staff felt honored to participate as volunteers in this virtuous initiative.
The founder also revealed plans for the ashram’s future expansion, stating that a larger facility featuring traditional Nepali-style homes will soon be constructed to accommodate everyone at Tulasalaya Ashram to provide a more comfortable and proper habilitation.
