Here we stand with the Oppressed Castes - the Dalits! Together we can! is a social movement to create a just society where every Nepali may enjoy life without fearing being persecuted in the name of caste. It is an initiative designed to counter and fight all forms of caste-based discrimination and untouchability – a collective intervention to ensure every right of every single Nepali citizen as guaranteed in the Constitution of Nepal. is a campaign to raise awareness of inequality, discrimination, and atrocities carried out on the basis of caste among all Nepalis and to urge meaningful action against such transgressions. seeks to connect people so they can build a collective force and amplify the voices of those affected to eradicate inequality, discrimination, and caste-based violence. It is a response to fight discrimination and injustice facing thousands of Dalits in Nepal.

•How representative is our democracy when Dalit and marginalized communities remain underrepresented in political power?
•How democratic is an election if the cost of contesting keeps ordinary people out?
•How fair is an election if voters do not have equal access to clear and reliable information before making their choice?
•How equitable are policies that fail to recognize the different barriers people face because of their intersecting identities?
•How inclusive is voting when dalit women, persons with disabilities, and people in geographically difficult areas face barriers to participating?
•What does representation mean if marginalized communities have a seat, but little say in decisions?

On this International Day of Democracy, we reaffirm that democracy must be accessible, inclusive, participatory, open to question, and shaped by all.

A Mother Gave Birth on the Street Despite Nepal’s Free Maternity Care Programme.

Babita Paswan, 30, went to the government hospital in Saptari to give birth but delivered her baby on the street. According to the family, they had Rs. 2,000 ($14), but a blood test would cost Rs. 3,200 ($20).

Unable to afford the said amount, Babita gave birth on the footpath outside the hospital at around 4:30 AM on 10th Sept. 2026. Her family reported negligence, humiliation, and mistreatment by hospital staff.

note: Delivery services are free in Nepal under the Aama Suraksha Programme.

We strongly demand an immediate, impartial, and thorough investigation into this incident and accountability for all those responsible.
