APPLY: WILDLIFE RESEARCH TECHNIQUES TRAINING (WRTT) 2026

Opportunity for Students, Graduates, Postgraduates & Early Career Researchers in Nepal (Kindly share within your network!)
Friends of Nature (FON) Nepal invites applications for the Annual Wildlife Research Techniques Training (WRTT) 2026 (19th and 20th event), designed for aspiring Nepalese students and early career researchers interested in wildlife research and conservation. The training combines classroom learning with hands-on field experience.

TRAINING VENUE
Rangbhang–Bhainsegaunda, Syangja

TRAINING SCHEDULE
• Phase I: 28 September – 16 October 2026 (12 Ashwin – 30 Ashwin 2083)
• Phase II: 15 November – 3 December 2026 (29 Kartik – 17 Mangsir 2083)

TRAINING INCLUDES
• Wildlife research and identification techniques (mammals, birds, butterflies, herpetofauna, and plants)
• Camera trapping, transect and sign surveys
• Research design, scientific writing, paper review, and presentation skills
• GIS, R, Use of AI in wildlife research, bioacoustics, Conservation communication, Data Analysis and Ethno-zoological survey, Experience sharing of the experts
• Wildlife policies, conservation management, outreach, and research ethics

ELIGIBILITY
Students, graduates, postgraduates, and early career researchers in Zoology, Forestry, Environmental Science/Management/Engineering, Biodiversity, Botany, Natural Resource Management, Veterinary Science, Rural Development, Mass Communication, and related fields.

REQUIREMENTS
• Member of the FON Nepal page (https://www.facebook.com/fonnepal2024)
• No prior experience required
• Good spoken and written English
• Bring trekking/hiking shoes, a laptop, and binoculars (8*40, 8*42, 10*50)

COMMITMENT
Selected trainees must be willing to work in teams, stay in remote field conditions, and complete a six-month online internship with FON Nepal after the training.

PARTICIPANTS (PER PHASE)
14 participants: 12 Open Competition | 1 Capitation Fee | 1 FON Nepal

FEE & SUPPORT (SELECTED PARTICIPANTS ONLY)
• Registration Fee: NPR 5,000
• Capitation Fee: NPR 25,000 (one reserved seat per phase)
• Four registration-fee scholarships (two per phase; must be applied through online form).
• FON Nepal provides accommodation, meals, accidental insurance, and shared field equipment.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION
• Motivation letter (max. 500 words)
• CV (max. 3 pages with recent passport-size photo)
• Name and contact detail of one referee (Email and phone number)

APPLICATION DEADLINE
20 August 2026 (4 Bhadra 2083), 5:00 PM (For both Phase I and Phase II)

SELECTION
Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online written assessment and/or interview.

FON Nepal reserves the right to reject any application without further explanation.

Inspiring Young Minds for Owl Conservation

An owl conservation awareness program was led by Bimal Rokaya on December, 2025, engaging 60 students across two schools, Shree Siddha Secondary School & Shuvatara Three Angles Mission School, Pokhara-15, Kaski. The sessions highlighted the ecological importance of owls, the threats they face, and the need for their conservation. Pangolin Conservation Awareness Camp

Nawaraj Acharya successfully conducted a Pangolin Conservation Awareness Camp in collaboration with the Forestry Youth Network (FYN) at Bhutandevi Secondary School, Brahmadik English Boarding School & Aadhunik Secondary School, Hetauda, Makawanpur. Through interactive presentations and discussions, students learned about the ecological importance of pangolins, the threats of illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss, and the importance of biodiversity conservation, inspiring them to become future advocates for wildlife protection.
