Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) Nepal in partnership with Seto Gurans NCDS: सेतो गुराँस राष्ट्रिय बाल विकास सेवा, successfully organized a two-day training on the Child-Friendly Approach(CFA) for early grade teachers on 12–13 September 2026, under the Project "Improvement of Basic Education at Community Schools through Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED)" funded by the Government of Japan and the people of Japan.

The training aimed to strengthen teachers' understanding of child-friendly and inclusive teaching practices for early grades students (Grade 1–3). Over the two days, participants engaged in sessions covering the concept and principles of child friendly classrooms, strategies for linguistic and ethnic inclusion, Multiple Intelligence and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approaches and positive discipline.

Through group work teachers prepared classroom ready resources including lesson plan, reward chart, and job charts, and while also developing individual action plans to sustain child friendly practices in their own classrooms going forward.

This training reflects the ECED project's continued commitment to improving the quality of basic education and promoting inclusive, supportive learning environments for early grade children in the project area.

＜被災地で緊急初動調査を実施｜ネパール土石流＞
9月上旬、ネパール事務所の萩原宏子所長が現地職員とともに、被害の大きかったヌワコット郡ベルコットガディ自治体に入り、被災状況や住民のニーズを確認するための調査を行いました。
今回の調査には、JPF（ジャパン・プラットフォーム）のスタッフ2名も同行し、避難所となっている学校や被災地域を視察したほか、区長、副市長らから被害状況や現在必要とされている支援について聞き取りを行いました。

自治体によると、ベルコットガディ自治体全体では186世帯が被災し、そのうち84世帯が7区に集中しています。現在4か所が避難所として使われ、そのうち2か所は学校です。避難所となっている学校では授業を行うことができず、災害は子どもたちの教育にも影響を及ぼしています。

避難している方々からも、突然それまでの暮らしを失った状況について話を聞きました。
「土石流が来ると最初に聞いたときは信じられませんでした。でも、家族に言われて、慌てて何も持たずに逃げました。以前家があった場所には、もう戻ることができません」そう話した女性もいました。

シャンティでは、現在進めている緊急支援に加え、今回の調査で確認された声やニーズを踏まえ、自治体や関連機関と連携しながら、今後も被災された方々に必要な支援を検討していきます。

From July 22 to 28, 2026, Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) Nepal successfully organized the "Grandparents' Story, My Picture (GSMP)" workshop. The workshop was implemented in close partnership with READ Nepal, Shilichong Club Social Development Centre (SCSDC), and Madi Municipality.

The workshop focused on publishing local folklore, culture, and oral histories by giving children the chance to document folklore through their own creative writing and artwork. By bridging the gap between generations, key activities of the workshop included storytelling sessions, illustration workshops, field studies, story verification, and a final art and story exhibition.

We extend our sincere thanks to all the grandparents, students, teachers, schools, local authorities, partners, and donors whose support made this program possible.

We are very proud to share that we are officially launching the Project "Improvement of Basic Education at Community School through Early Childhood and Development (ECED)" in two community schools within Godawari Municipality, Lalitpur.

This project is being implemented with the technical support of Seto Gurans NCDS: सेतो गुराँस राष्ट्रिय बाल विकास सेवा and the generous financial support of the Government of Japan and other generous supporters from Japan.
The project activities include:
i. Child-Friendly Classrooms
ii. Teacher Capacity Building
iii. Community & Parent Engagement/ Parental Education

Together with the local community, Godawari Municipality, Seto Gurans, and the Government of Japan, we are committed to building a strong educational foundation for our young learners in these community schools.

SVA Nepal has officially launched the "Improvement of Basic Education at Community Schools through Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED)" project in Sankhuwasabha and Lalitpur districts.
The project runs from March 2026 to July 2029, targeting community schools in Madi Municipality, Dharma Devi Municipality, Sankhuwasabha District & Godawari Municipality of Lalitpur District.
At the early stage of the project (APR-MAY 2026), SVA signed MoUs with local governments and held a foundation-laying ceremony for two new school buildings in Sankhuwasabha, District.
Over the next three and a half years, the project will build and renovate school facilities, train ECED facilitators and teachers in child-friendly teaching methods, and strengthen the role of parents and School Management Committees in supporting children's early learning.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Japan & the People of Japan, being implemented in partnership with Shilichong Club Social Development Centre (Sankhuwasabha) and Seto Gurans National Child Development Services (Lalitpur), and supervised by the Social Welfare Council (SWC).

Our Community Based Vocational and Technical Skill Development Training initiative continues to make steady progress with the support of the Japan Government. The Community Library and Resource Centers (CLRC) in Dharmadevi and Letang are actively delivering practical and inclusive programs that respond to local needs.

In February, IT Skills training, TVET courses in Plumbing and Electrical work strengthened the employability of local youth, that will help youths and women pursue sustainable livelihoods within their own communities. Agricultural outreach provided on-site expert support to farmers, saving time and improving productivity. At the same time, literacy programs ensured inclusive participation, these activities at CLRCs enabling individuals from diverse backgrounds to engage in skills development and contributing to overall long-term community growth.
