🔷 Impact of Flood on Media and Journalists
✅ Four journalists [Tekraj Thami, Shekhar Dhungana, Raj Kumar Nepali, and Suresh Simkhada] have been missing since the 26 August 2026 Rasuwa/Bhotekoshi flood.
✅ At least 10 family members of journalists reported out of contact including 5 family members of Nirajan Paudel, 2 parents-in-law of Logshari Kunwar, 1 brother of Anu Acharya, 1 brother of Shyamsundar Yadav, and a husband of Maya Shrestha.
✅ Four journalists [Bipin Malla, Shiva Devkota, Kiran Adhikari and Sunny Shrestha] reported property loss or damage.
✅ At Least 7 media houses were affected in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, with damage to offices/equipment, loss of archives and data, and disruptions to electricity and internet services.
✅ One media house [Radio Chimteshwor] resumed broadcasting on 28 August after electricity and communication disruptions.
✅ One media house suspended publication, Sundaradevi Sandesh Weekly’s office was completely flooded, with documents, data and archives lost.
✅ Two journalists were reportedly stopped while reporting on unidentified bodies, with one journalist’s phone reportedly seized and recorded materials deleted.
✅ At least 2 major misinformation cases were documented: an AI-generated image falsely presented as a Rasuwa flood “before and after” image, and an old Alaska glacier video falsely circulated as Rasuwa flood footage.
✅ Eight key recovery priorities identified: emergency assistance, missing-person support, property/livelihood recovery, restoration of media operations, safe access for journalists, and protection from intimidation, psychosocial support, and stronger media disaster preparedness and resilience.
