High Altitude Mountain Workers Welfare Association (HAMWWA) is a non-profit, non-political and non-governmental organization registered in 2007 having a register number 1328/064/065. It is affiliated with Social Welfare Council, Government of Nepal with the affiliation number 23000. HAMWWA has its own office situated in Thamel, Kathmandu. This organization has been operating different activities/p
rograms targeting the people who live and work in high hills and mountains in Nepal. Currently the organization has focused its activities in mountainous districts especially Solukhumbu, Samkhuwasabha, Taplejung, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Rukum, Dolakhaa and Rasuwa. However, it renders humanitarian supports to the needy, hapless and poor children of other mountainous districts as well. The sole objective of this association is to conduct several support programs for the overall welfare of the workers of the Mountainous and hilly regions. Since the large area of Nepal is covered with hills and mountains, the working and living condition in this difficult geography is very risky. However, people especially from Sherpa family are bound to toil hard at the cost of their life to earn daily bread for their family. Working as porter or tourist guide is the age long profession of Sherpas living in mountainous region. Although they are used to climbing ups and downs of the hills and mountains in course of work, the large number of Sherpa in mountainous region is still unaware about their occupational health and safety. As a result, they face many problems, challenges and difficult situation. They are most often exposed to dreadful accidents, injuries and sometimes even deaths in course of their work. Considering this bitter fact, HAMWWA has been launching multi dimensional programs/activities i.e. Skill Development Training, Education Support Program and Community Support Programs to reduce risk and vulnerability of the mountain workers and their family. Besides this, the organization has been providing necessary support to the poor, helpless, disabled persons and also to those who have lost their family members and relatives caused by sickness, accident and other kinds of risks while performing their works in the mountains.
