Dignified Menstruation in Humanitarian Crisis and Response

Menstruators are everywhere — including in every form of humanitarian crisis, climate disaster, or pandemic.

Disasters don't stop menstruation — or menopause. Nor do they stop the perceptions and practices surrounding it.

Menstrual discrimination exists everywhere, at every level. Because of its impact, menstruators are disproportionately affected and excluded throughout the entire humanitarian cycle — intentionally and unintentionally.

4️⃣ Global policy still falls short. Even frameworks like the Gender Action Plan to Support Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 miss the true gravity of menstrual discrimination across diverse settings.

Dignity cannot wait — not even in crisis.

🗓️ 28 September: International Safe Abortion Day

SRHR Services cannot exist where menstrual discrimination continues.

On this day, we are releasing the Endline Survey Report of our project Menstrual Dignity for SRHR in All Diversities, implemented in Jumla, Sarlahi, and Kathmandu. It found that:

✅ 89.8% reported greater understanding of menstruation, menopause, SRHR and SGBV
✅ 85.5% reported reduced acceptance of menstrual discrimination
✅ 2,210 people received SRHR services at health posts
✅ Nepal's first Dignified Menstruation-Friendly Ward was declared (Lalbandi-3)

When menstruators live free from menstrual discrimination, they are better placed to claim their rights, access services and decide for themselves.

📖 A Milestone for Dignified Menstruation! ❤️

Today, we proudly celebrate the launch of The Crimson Truth: Claiming Menstrual Dignity, authored by Dr. Radha Paudel, a powerful emerging theory from her PhD research.
Today’s launch marks not only the publication of a book, but also another step in strengthening the discourse on Dignified Menstruation and creating space for menstrual experiences and voices that have too often remained unheard.
This book inspires more conversations, critical thinking, research, and action toward a world where every menstruator can experience menstruation with dignity.
The truth is crimson. The call is dignity. The change is collective. ❤️
