Introduction
Society of Cardiothoracic Vascular Nurses of Nepal (SCTVN) is the national professional organization, not for profit, established under the Society Registration Act 1978 (2034) on 12th April 2021 and registered under Social Welfare Act 1993 (2049) on 4th April 2021. In addition, it is the member of ACS network since August 2021. Background
The cardiothoracic vascular diseases are in i
ncreasing trend worldwide including Nepal. According to Nepal country profile 20181, WHO estimates cardiovascular diseases remains 30% among 66% of all deaths due to non-communicable disease (NCDs). To cater required health services to this population is one of the national targets of government of Nepal. Man Mohan Cardiothoracic Vascular Transplant Centre (MCVTC) is paving the way in providing super specialized cardiothoracic vascular care to the patients as highest referral center of the country. The center is running Cardiothoracic Vascular Intensive Nursing Training (CTVIN) for the provision of competent nursing staffs with specialized knowledge and skill with clinical experience. This human resource is very scarce in the health and need to promote and develop. So, likeminded nurses trained in this field felt need of an organization for the development of cardiothoracic vascular nursing services in the country and formed the Society of Cardiothoracic Vascular Nurses of Nepal. Establish essential role of cardiothoracic vascular nurses to reduce the burden of disease through the competent and compassionate care as interdisciplinary team. Vision
A dignified career for nurses working in the field of cardiothoracic vascular nursing with equitable community participation and exercise of rights and realize their full potential. To develop and advance the cardiothoracic vascular nursing
specialty in the country to deliver quality services.
2. To unite and advocate for recognition as cardiothoracic vascular
nurses and secure welfare (support with necessary care,
counselling and financial means as required) of its members with
mutual understanding and trust.
3. To network and build relationship with other national and
international organization of relevance for learning and sharing
experiences.
4. To create environment for conduct of education, training,
research in the field of cardiothoracic vascular nursing for the
human resource development.
5. To organize seminar, conference and workshops for enhancement
and update in this specialty.
6. To conduct public awareness and education programs on
cardiothoracic and vascular health problems for prevention,
treatment, and rehabilitation.
7. To advocate for cardiothoracic vascular nursing specialty course
development in advance level at master’s degree in the country
through appropriate institutions.
8. To support the patients and family in critical need with technical
and financial means through fund generation. Membership criteria
1. Nepali citizenship
2. Registered in Nepal Nursing Council
3. Nurses working in the cardiothoracic vascular specialty at least for
one year after completion of PCl/ Bsc Nursing /BN/PBN/ BNS etc.
4. Nurses trained for three months or more in the cardiothoracic
vascular specialty
5. Nurses with PBN, BNS, and BSC degree with at least three months
clinical experience in the cardiothoracic vascular nursing. Membership type and fees
1. General member – annual entry with Rupees 1000 fee and 200 for
renew.
2. Life member – once for all time with Rupees 5000 fee one hundred
every year for renew
3. Honorary member – distinguished personalities in the country no f
fee.
4. Founder member - working members who are involved in the
inception period of this organization development.
5. Advisory member – Expert from the nursing and co professionals. Introduce cardiothoracic vascular specialty nursing, this means
working in a range of settings, including coronary care units, cardiac
catheter laboratories, cardiothoracic vascular surgery, general
medicine, care of the elderly, emergency care, and out-patient
departments.
2. Support the diverse range of cardiothoracic vascular nurses in
clinical practice and research through, advocacy, education,
research, congress, and membership.
3. Participation in two yearly congress, highly valued opportunity to
learn about best practices, to network with experts, and to hear
about cutting edge science.
4. Commitment to providing the highest-level learning, mentoring and
networking opportunities to refresh and renew ourselves.
5. Advocate for childcare site at workplace free of charge.
6. Provide leadership and strategic support to nursing to maximize the
contribution of the interdisciplinary teams.
7. Scope in contribution to preventive cardiothoracic vascular care and
support the management of patients with chronic and complex
conditions.
8. Expand nurse’s role working in the community include heart failure
nurses, who frequently undertake home visits to improve heart
failure management and support patients to reduce admissions, and
to facilitate palliative care.
9. Build the scope of cardiothoracic vascular nurses’ work in research
and industry. Conducting high-quality research is essential to ensure
that cardiovascular science advances, and nurses can be the
cornerstone of the development of trials, recruitment of
participants, collection of data, data interpretation, and reporting
studies.
10. Create vital role to ensure that cardiovascular nurses develop
appropriate advanced practice skills through postgraduate study. Skilled nurses reduce morbidity and mortality. The work of Driscoll
et al demonstrated a 10% increase in the ratio of bachelor’s degree
prepared nurses resulted in a 7% decrease in morbidity among
400,000 patients. This emphasized the association between
workforce, qualifications, and quality of care and highlight that
there is an incremental increase in critical thinking and clinical
skills increased nursing qualifications. Executive Body
It consists of 11 nurses working in the cardiothoracic vascular health from different organization to form executive body. The executive member should be the life member of the society who run the executive board for two years. At present the members are as follows:
