Eye Care Foundation's CEO, Ms. Jeanette Dijkstra, recently visited Nepal. She was pleased to meet our partners: Himalaya Eye Hospital, Pokhara, Gorkha Lions Aankha Sewa Kendra, Gorkha, Dhaulagiri Eye Hospital, Baglung and Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh and courtesy meeting with Norwegian Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted, Nepal Eye Hospital, Kirtipur Eye Hospital and Disabled Service Association. It was a great opportunity to visit Tilganga Eye Hospital and observe the IOL factory and Eye Bank.
We were delighted to welcome Jeanette to Nepal and look forward to her leadership as we continue working together to eliminate avoidable blindness and improve vision for communities across the country.

✨85 cataract surgeries in just 2 days!

Gorkha Lions Aankha Sewa Kendra, Gorkha, in technical support of Himalaya Eye Hospital, Pokhara and financial support from Eye Care Foundation, conducted a successful eye surgical camp in Arughat Municipality, Gorkha, where 85 cataract surgeries were performed in two days.

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated teams of HEH and GLASK for their tireless efforts and commitment. Special thanks to Arughat Municipality for their valuable support in making this camp a success.

From Dream to Sight: The Story of Dr. Babita Gurung

As a young doctor, Dr. Babita Gurung saw patients from remote mountain areas traveling for hours to get eye care at the Himalaya Eye Hospital in Nepal. This inspired her to become an ophthalmologist.

With support from Eye Care Foundation, she followed her dream. Today, she is the Medical Director of that very same hospital!

She leads surgeries, organizes eye camps in the mountains, and restores sight to thousands.

Her focus is strongly on helping women:
“For women, health is especially important,” she explains. “Many women carry the responsibility for both work and family. A healthy mother means a happy family.”

✨Karnali Eye Surgical Camp (Jumla–Mugu–Kalikot)

From April 18 to May 2, Himalaya Eye Hospital, Pokhara successfully conducted four eye surgical camps across Chandannath (Jumla), Gumgadi (Mugu), Manma (Kalikot), and Narharinath (Kalikot).
A total of 2,274 eye screenings were carried out, among which 430 surgeries were performed.
The camp was accomplished by HEH team led by Dr. Hari Bikram Adhikari.
