Durbar Marg was build in 1961, a new vision created by then crown prince Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev. Since then commercial activities started emerging and it became a well known hub for travel business having airlines offices, travel agencies, restaurants and tourist shopping destination. In later years it changed towards a shopping destination for fashion, watches, gadgets and many more. The fl
ow of visitors has multifold from hundreds to thousand in a day. Along with this development new challenges also emerged, to keep Durbar Marg clean secured and hassle free from street children, hawkers and etc. To address these challenges and to save from defaming the street, a group of business establishments came forward and established Durbar Marg Development Board on November 16, 2006. The main objective of the Board is to maintain as a clean, green, secured and hassle free street. It is also a known fact that this is the most elite street in the whole country thus everyone from inside and outside the country visit Kathmandu come to the street at least once. There are thousands of people whose favorite hangout is Durbar Marg. But despite being Durbar Marg the most prestigious street of Nepal, it does not have proper drainage system, drinking water pipelines, streetlights and etc. After the establishment of the board we are maintaining and servicing in our best level with limited resources by having our own team of cleaning, security and managing it day to day. we have achieved some constructive achievements e.g. building street divider of our own design and cost, building footpath guard to avoid for motorbike to drive on the footpath, cleaning the statue which was into dilapidated condition. But the most important achievement is helping to build the Durbar Marg Traffic police building, which cost more than five million rupees. Since few years we have realized there is more to do, particularly in addressing drainage and lights today we have already signed MOU with the concerned authorities; Department of Roads and Kathmandu Metropolitan City. We are trying our best to brighten up the streets within 2070 BS and also make it more secured, clean and beautiful.
