People, Energy & Environment Development Association (PEEDA) was established in 1997 jointly by various hydropower related organizations for the enhancement of the renewable energy sector in Nepal. PEEDA aims to mobilize local as well as external resources to harness the indigenous resources of the country thereby promoting poverty alleviation activities. It focuses mainly on institutional develop

ment, participation with stakeholders at grass root levels in development activity, research and lobbying for policy change. PEEDA’s team, with its gained experiences in the energy and development sectors, envisioned that economic development can be achieved through sustainable energy development activities, with the particular emphasis of seeing this development reach the poor.

- World Environment Day 2026

Throughout this week, we have reflected on the realities of climate change, Nepal's vulnerability, the role of nature, and the importance of local action. The message is clear.

Climate change is already affecting communities today.
Solutions exist. Action is possible. The responsibility is shared.

As we mark World Environment Day 2026, we encourage individuals, communities, institutions, and governments to move beyond awareness and embrace action. Whether through protecting natural resources, adopting sustainable practices, supporting clean energy, strengthening resilience, or promoting community-led solutions, every action matters.

The planet is speaking. Our response starts now.

- Day 4: Local Actions Matter

Climate action is not limited to global conferences and national policies.

It also happens in homes, schools, communities, and municipalities.
Choosing clean cooking solutions, saving energy, reducing waste, conserving resources, and supporting sustainable practices all contribute to a healthier and more resilient future.

Every action may seem small on its own, but together they create meaningful change.

What local action are you taking for the environment?

- Day 3: Nature as a Solution

Forests protect watersheds. Rivers support livelihoods.

Healthy ecosystems reduce disaster risks and strengthen resilience.
Nature is not only something we protect—it is something that protects us. Investing in forests, watersheds, biodiversity, and ecosystem restoration is investing in the wellbeing of people and communities.

Nature-based solutions are climate solutions.

- Day 2: Nepal’s Vulnerability

Nepal Contributes Little. Suffers A Lot.

Nepal contributes less than 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Yet the country faces increasing risks from glacier retreat, floods, landslides, droughts, and changing weather patterns.

Communities living in mountains, hills, and plains are experiencing climate impacts despite contributing very little to the problem. Climate justice means recognizing that those least responsible are often the most affected.

Powering Change: Clean Cooking in Schools!

From the proud legacy of Nepal’s first hydropower to shaping a cleaner, healthier future for our schools, PEEDA is honored to witness and contribute to a truly historic milestone.

With technical and financial support from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and in collaboration with our valued project partner Rukmani Foundation, we successfully handed over electric cooking technologies to two government schools (Shree Setidevi Secondary School and Shree Arunodaya Secondary School) in Dakshinkali Municipality. This marks an important step toward promoting clean, safe, and energy efficient cooking practices for mid day meal preparation in schools.

This initiative goes beyond equipment support. It is a transition toward sustainable school kitchens, improved health for students, and a commitment to reducing reliance on traditional fuels.
Together, we are lighting the path toward cleaner energy, empowered communities, and a greener future for the next generation.

- Day 1

Climate change is no longer a future threat - it is a present day reality.

Across Nepal, communities are increasingly confronted with the cascading impacts of climate change, including extreme precipitation events, floods, landslides, prolonged droughts, ecosystem degradation, and growing pressures on livelihoods and natural resources.

As we count down to World Environment Day 2026, PEEDA is launching a week long series to spark conversations on climate resilience, local action, and sustainable solutions. We invite you to reflect on a simple but important question:

* Are we prepared for a changing climate?

Understanding the challenge is the first step toward addressing it.
🌱 Climate change is already here. The time to act is now.

Cooking Smarter, Cooking Cleaner!

On May 4, 2026, PEEDA hosted a lively eCooking workshop in Burtibang, Baglung — a space where community members, local leaders, entrepreneurs, and journalists came together to share stories, challenges, and solutions.

- Early adopters inspired potential users with their experiences
- Practical tips and demonstrations showed how electric cooking can transform kitchens and businesses
- Together, participants explored barriers and brainstormed actions to make eCooking accessible for all

This event proved that when communities learn from each other, sustainable change sparks and spreads!
