Awareness Program on Air Pollution and Demonstration in School

Following their participation in the Actionable Ideas Implementation workshop, aimed at handing over locally-led climate solutions to the Biratnagar Metropolitan City - the inspiring students of Adarsha Ma Vi. along with Digo Bikas Institute and Green City Volunteer organized an impactful "Awareness Program on Air Pollution and Demonstration in School" right at their school.

The student led and split into five specialized groups to present critical aspects of air pollution, from its primary causes, like fossil fuel combustion and waste burning, to its severe impacts on public health and the local environment. To move beyond traditional classroom learning, the presenters engaged students in lively Q&A sessions and open discussions, creating a comfortable space for peers to share their own perspectives. The absolute highlight was the live demonstration of two student-made models : a simple air filter and a water purifier, showcasing practical, low-cost engineering solutions that can help protect our shared environment.

Following their participation in the Actionable Ideas Implementation workshop, aimed at handing over locally-led climate solutions to the Biratnagar Metropolitan City - the inspiring students of Gograha Ma Vi. along with Digo Bikas Institute and Green City Volunteer organized an impactful "Awareness and Consultation Program for Green, Clean and Livable Public Space" right at their school.

The student leaders delivered an insightful presentation focusing on the concept of "Green, Clean, and Livable Spaces," emphasizing its specific importance and urgency within the context of Biratnagar. Following this, they facilitated a collaborative workshop where participants were asked to share their vision for local public spaces. Working in breakout groups, the students designed and presented innovative, forward-thinking solutions for sustainable urban living. The session was a resounding success, effectively showcasing the students' visionary ideas for the city's future.

Following their participation in the Actionable Ideas Implementation workshop, aimed at handing over locally-led climate solutions to the Biratnagar Metropolitan City - the inspiring students of Janabikas Ma Vi along with Digo Bikas Institute and Green City Volunteer organized an impactful "Awareness Program on Climate Change and Plantation Program" right at their school.

The students took the lead, delivering powerful insights on climate change and emphasizing why youth and student participation is critical for our future. Backed by motivating words from their teachers, the students engaged in lively presentations and group discussions to map out real, local solutions along with plantations in their school.

June 25th, 26th and 27th
Our alumni took over Hetauda, Pokhara, Chitwan, Gaurdaha, Janakpur, and Paklihawa with a mix of heavy-hitting climate discussions and beautiful art exhibitions.

Honestly, watching them transition from quiet students into absolute powerhouse facilitators has us feeling like proud parents. The climate crisis is real, but thankfully, so is the youth energy in these regions.

!! Completion of DBI's maiden Annual Research Symposium 2026 !!

On 29th June 2026, the Digo Bikas Institute hosted the very first Annual Research Symposium at Alfa House Banquet, Baneswor. This maiden event is themed "Communities at the Crossroads: Environment, Memory, and Governance in Nepal."

Many Thanks to Dr. Maheshwar Dhakal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment and Head of the Climate Change Management Division for his powerful keynote address that set the tone for this inaugural gathering.

This research symposium showcased the following research presentations:

1. Post-GLOF Recovery in Thame Valley: A 20-month longitudinal recovery study was shared by Binod Parajuli (Co-founder and Executive Director, CRRL), Rupesh Karn (Research Coordinator, DBI) and Puskar Paudel (Geospatial Researcher, CRRL) based on Thame field study on community resilience after the August 2024 GLOF

2. Landscape Transformation & Place-Based Memory: Swati Bhattarai (Research Fellow, DBI) shared research outcomes and findings based on intergenerational memory in Jayabageswori and Naxal

3. Carbon Markets & Community Forests in Nepal: Alisha Adhikari (Research Fellow, DBI) shared research outcomes and findings based on the Chitwan study.

As a token of appreciation, board members Prasana Kunwar and Kalyan Raj Khadka presented tokens of love to our esteemed guests and speakers, while Rupesh Karn distributed letters of appreciation to our research fellows in recognition of their dedication and hard work.

The event concluded with an engaging open discussion and an interactive Mentimeter session. We would like to congratulate Mr. Kirtan, who took home a special gift from DBI for winning the session!

On 28 June 2026, Digo Bikas Institute, in collaboration with World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ), Power Shift Nepal, and WE–Women from Indigenous Nationalities (WE-WIN), organized a roundtable discussion on "The Role of CSOs for Climate Justice in Nepal."

The discussion brought together representatives from CSOs, youth networks and climate activist to discuss on the role of CSOs in advancing climate justice. It was started with keynote speeches followed up by discussion highlighting youth leadership, grassroots climate action, climate governance, international legal processes, gender-responsive climate action, and the importance of Indigenous knowledge in climate action, and protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and marginalized communities.

A key takeaway from the discussion was the collective agreement to establish a collective network that would serve as a unified voice for climate justice advocacy in Nepal. Participants also emphasized the need to strengthen evidence-based advocacy and create more opportunities for collaboration by bringing together the energy of young people and the experience of senior leaders. They further agreed to continue this conversation through a follow-up event focused on exchanging intergenerational experiences and building a stronger, more inclusive climate justice movement.

Together, we move forward towards a more just, inclusive, and climate -resilient future.
