The society in Nepal generally does not take the hard of hearing with positive attitude. The hard of hearing persons are often exposed to teasing, undermining and ridiculing. Many think the hard of hearing persons are completely helpless as they are ignorant and incapable of doing anything. The fact is that the hard of hearing persons are capable of doing all things like other people, with just on
e exception that they cannot properly listen to others. In this context, Nepal Association of the Hard of Hearing (NAHOH) was established on October 16, 1996 at the initiative of a group of individuals who were hard of hearing persons themselves and had been suffering from neglect and leading lonely life. NAHOH is the organization of all hard of hearing persons. This organization believes that a body consisting of themselves such as can carry out activities effectively for them and bring about a qualitative change in their lives. In this endeavor, they seek partnership and collaboration from other people and organizations dedicated to uplift their status and well being NAHOH is a non-profit making, non-governmental and apolitical organization.
