As part of the Second National Memory Conference in Kathmandu (9–10 June 2026), Amnesty International Nepal hosted a panel discussion titled “Connecting Movements: Intergenerational Memory.”

The discussion brings together voices from Indigenous, Madhesi, Dalit, women’s, victims’, and youth movements to reflect on how Nepal’s armed conflict is remembered across generations—and how these memories continue to shape struggles for truth, justice, accountability, and human rights.

With just a few days before the Men’s World Cup kicks off, thousands of fans from around the world risk being shut out of one of the biggest sporting events on the planet.

Many have waited for a long time and saved to pursue their dream of seeing their nations compete in the tournament. Instead of cheering from the stands, many are facing travel bans, visa denials, and threats of aggressive immigration enforcement from the US.

With several participating countries subject to a US travel ban, and ongoing racial profiling and arbitrary arrests by ICE and other federal agencies, the country’s draconian immigration policies threaten to spill over into an event that is meant to bring people together -- not tear us apart.

The belongs to us all. There is no World Cup without the world.

Over 80 members of Amnesty International Nepal’s Youth Network and Groups from across the country came together for a two-day Human Rights Education (HRE) workshop on May 29–30.

The workshop strengthened participants’ understanding of human rights principles and explored how rights-based approaches can be applied to real-life challenges in Nepal, including access to land, sexual and gender-based violence, and other pressing human rights issues.

Thirty-seven years after the Tiananmen crackdown, Chinese authorities have reportedly barred the Tiananmen Mothers from visiting the graves of loved ones killed on 4 June 1989.

That day, Chinese troops opened fire on peaceful protesters in and around Beijing's Tiananmen Square, killing hundreds—possibly thousands—who were calling for political reform and greater freedoms. The Chinese government has since censored discussion of the crackdown and suppressed public commemorations. Now, even families seeking to mourn their loved ones are reportedly being denied that right.

Remembering those who were killed is not a crime. Families deserve truth, justice, and the freedom to grieve without fear or restriction.
