Five years of repression. Five years of impunity. Five years of false promises.

Five years after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the country remains in the grip of a devastating human rights crisis. Hard-won rights have been systematically rolled back, while women, girls, journalists, human rights defenders and other communities continue to face severe restrictions and repression.

Afghans deserve more than promises. They deserve freedom, dignity, equality and justice.

Nearly a year after the Gen Z movement that helped bring the current government to power, where does Nepal stand on social justice, human rights, and the rule of law?

In this episode, Majid Ansari and Monica Niraula reflect on the government's performance so far from the perspective of Gen-Z activists. They discuss the forced evictions of landless communities, Majid's experience of being arrested without a warrant and forcibly detained, and the government's response to human rights violations. Together, they examine what these incidents reveal about the state of the rule of law, raising concerns about arbitrary arrests, shrinking civic space, among others.
