87 Iranian officials identified as warranting criminal investigations.

Based on extensive investigations, Amnesty International has exposed the chain of command behind the Iranian authorities’ crimes against humanity to crush the 2022 Woman Life Freedom uprising. We name 87 officials who should be criminally investigated. Most of these officials remain in positions of authority enabling them to unleash further deadly repression, while some have climbed up the chain of command. This impunity emboldened the authorities to unlawfully kill thousands more protesters between 8 and 9 January 2026.

The normalization of mass protest killings in Iran must end.

Today marks one year since the Gen-Z protests.

On 8 September 2025, 19 people were killed when security forces indiscriminately deployed both lethal and less lethal weapons against unarmed protesters. A total of 76 people lost their lives during the cycles of violence unleashed on 8 and 9 September.

Thousands were injured, and public and private property worth billions of rupees set ablaze.

One year on, despite investigations, reports and arrests, there has been little meaningful progress on accountability and the rule of law.

An investigation ≠ justice.
An arrest ≠ accountability.
A report ≠ a remedy.

We cannot allow a culture of impunity to be carried forward.
The families of those killed deserve justice and reparations. They deserve accountability. And everyone has the right to protest peacefully without fear of state violence and reprisal.

UNEP’s latest report is a stark reminder that the world is still on track to overshoot the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement.

For Nepal, this is not a distant threat. The devastating floods in Rasuwa have shown just how deadly a changing Himalayan climate can be. And while no single disaster can be attributed to climate change alone, a warming Himalaya is increasing the risks posed by melting ice, unstable slopes and extreme events.

Nepal contributes only a tiny share of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet its people are facing some of the harshest consequences of a crisis they did little to create.

Governments and fossil fuel companies must act now to rapidly phase out fossil fuels, cut emissions and ensure that communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis receive the support they need.
