Those dreams of being confident, empowered, educated and free don’t happen by chance — they happen when we choose to end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights.

On the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, Zonta Club of Kathmandu reached Saraswati Model School, Janakpur in Mahesh Province with the highest rates of early chile marriage.

We spent the day with 85 bright students of Grade 9 & 10, sensitizing them about Early Child Marriage — its legal consequences and its deep societal impact, with Advocate Rinku Yadav.
We screened 3 awareness videos on early marriage, and held a reflective activity where students were asked to imagine themselves at 25. They spoke of becoming nurses and scientists, cricketers and scholars, entrepreneurs and even the Prime Minister — dreams that deserve time, education and choice.

We also interacted with the Principal and teachers to carry this conversation beyond the classroom.

We distributed school bags, notebooks, pens and Zonta’s handbook on Early Child Marriage as small reminders of a big message: Let girls dream. Let girls learn. Let girls lead.

From Janakpur back to Kathmandu — with full hearts and a stronger resolve.

This International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the dreams, voices, and limitless potential of every girl. 💛

Through our “Dream Board 2035”, girls shared how they see themselves by 2035 - confident, empowered, educated, and free to choose their own path.

In line with this year’s focus, “End Child Marriage & Invest in Girls’ Rights,” Zonta stands committed to creating a world where every girl has the right to dream, learn, lead, and thrive.

📚✨ Read Aloud Session: Inspiring Young Readers!

Thursday, September 25, 2026, marked the kick-off of our Read Aloud Programme at Mahendra Bhawan School and Durbar High School, a wonderful collaborative initiative of the Service Committee and Z & Golden Z Committee.

Our young Z Club members from Kasthamandap Vidyalaya brought stories to life for the students of Mahendra Bhawan, while the Z Club members of Sanskriti International School engaged the young learners of Durbar High School through read aloud sessions and creative dramatization.

What made the sessions truly special was the creativity and enthusiasm of our young volunteers. From storytelling and dramatization to questions, illustrations, games and reflection activities, they found wonderful ways to inspire curiosity and nurture a genuine love for reading.
It was heartwarming to see young learners helping other young learners discover the joy and importance of books, and this is just the beginning!

📚 TURNING PAGES, OPENING DOORS
Zonta Club Kathmandu successfully completed our MOU Renewal & Book Handover Ceremony at Durbar High School — a beautiful milestone in our partnership with Bhanu Ma. Vi. and Sanskrit Ma. Vi. A total of 1,677 books were handed over to enrich and strengthen the two school libraries.
The highlight? The students themselves leading as MCs and sharing their reflections. Their enthusiasm truly brought the program to life.
Thank you to our leadership for your presence and support, to our generous donors for the puzzles, and to our entire Service Committee for your time, teamwork and heart. Together, we turn service into lasting impact.

An Evening of Stories, Inclusion and Reflection

A few moments from our special screening of Elephants in the Fog (Tiniharu), a powerful story that invites us to reflect on identity, belonging, family, dignity, and the experiences of those who are often pushed to the margins of society.

As part of Zonta Club Kathmandu’s Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) initiative, in collaboration with the movie committee, the screening was more than an evening at the movies. It created a space to engage with stories that challenge our perspectives, spark conversations, and encourage greater empathy and understanding of the different experiences within our communities.

Through cinema, we were reminded that inclusion begins with listening, understanding, and creating space for every individual to be seen, heard, and respected.

What brought us together was more than a film. It was a shared belief that, in times of loss and uncertainty, we can each do something to help. The evening also raised NPR 3,50,000 towards relief and recovery efforts following the Bhotekoshi floods.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us, supported the screening, and helped make this meaningful evening possible.

With Gratitude from Zonta Club Kathmandu

On September 7th, our team made an 18-hour journey to one of the flood affected area in Ward 7, Bidur along with other communities on the outskirts of the Kathmandu valley to deliver relief supplies.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every Zontian who supported this effort — directly and indirectly. A special thank you to Zn. Diptee for her trust and dedication, to Krishna Bahadur KC and Rajan Prasad Adhikari for guiding us, and to our driver for safely navigating every mile.

What moved us most was the resilience and spirit of the community. Amid unimaginable loss, they stood calm, strong, and united. With deep integrity, they ensured aid reached those most in need. With grace, they welcomed us with warmth.

We’re relieved that immediate food supplies have reached Bidur. But our work doesn’t end here.

What comes next?
How do we help women rebuild their livelihoods?
How do we support children who have lost so much and bring them back to the classroom?

Relief was step one. Rebuilding is next. As Zontians, we remain committed to walking alongside these families.
