Sunita Foundation conducted an awareness session on human trafficking and its prevention at Shree Krishna Secondary School, Melamchi-4, Chapeli, engaging with students on the risks, realities, and ways to stay safe from trafficking.

The session focused on helping students understand how trafficking can happen, common forms of deception and exploitation, online risks, and the importance of seeking trusted support when faced with suspicious situations or offers.

Through open discussion and interaction, students were encouraged to ask questions, recognize potential risks, and speak up when they see or experience situations that may lead to exploitation.

Prevention begins with awareness, information, and empowered communities.

In coordination with the local government in Bidur Nuwakot, Sunita Foundation is supporting ongoing needs assessment and psychosocial first aid (PFA), including supportive listening, with children, adolescents, and people affected by the crisis at holding shelters and in communities.
These conversations help us understand what people are experiencing and importantly, what support is actually needed. The learning from these assessments will guide more practical and sustainable support as recovery continues, so that needs are heard, services are connected, and no one is left behind.

मानव बेचबिखनविरुद्धको २०औँ राष्ट्रिय दिवस
विपद् आउँदा संरक्षण पर्खिन सक्दैन।

हालैको बाढीले धेरै परिवारलाई विस्थापन, जीविकोपार्जनको क्षति र अत्यावश्यक सेवामा पहुँचको अभावजस्ता कठिनाइमा पारेको छ। यस्तो अवस्थामा महिला, बालबालिका तथा जोखिममा रहेका व्यक्तिहरू शोषण र मानव बेचबिखनको थप जोखिममा पर्न सक्छन्।

त्यसैले विपद् प्रतिकार्यमा उद्धार र राहतसँगै मानव बेचबिखनको रोकथाम, संरक्षण, सुरक्षित सेवामा पहुँच र प्रभावित व्यक्तिहरूको आवश्यकतालाई केन्द्रमा राख्नु आवश्यक छ।

मानव बेचबिखनको रोकथाम विपद् प्रतिकार्यकै महत्त्वपूर्ण पक्ष हो।
पुनर्स्थापना सुरक्षित, समावेशी र प्रभावित केन्द्रित हुनुपर्छ।

20th National Day Against Human Trafficking
When disaster strikes, protection cannot wait.

The recent floods have left many families facing displacement, loss of livelihoods and limited access to essential services. In such situations, women, children and people in vulnerable circumstances may face increased risks of exploitation and human trafficking.

Therefore, disaster response must include not only rescue and relief, but also trafficking prevention, protection, safe access to services and support that puts affected people at the centre.

Trafficking prevention is part of disaster response.
Recovery must be safe, inclusive and survivor-centred.

As part of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026 campaign, Sunita Foundation conducted a community awareness program in Sikharbesi-07, Serang, Nuwakot, with the participation of the Ward Chairperson and community members, under this year’s global theme, "Trapped Behind the Scam."

The session focused on raising awareness about human trafficking, deceptive online practices, and the ways traffickers may use false promises and opportunities to exploit people. Participants were encouraged to stay alert, verify information and opportunities, protect themselves and their families, and speak up when they encounter suspicious situations.

Preventing human trafficking is a shared responsibility. When communities are informed and engaged, they become stronger in recognizing risks, protecting one another, and creating safer communities for all.
