Nepal has made important progress in maternal and child health, but a critical gap remains: preconception care, early screening, and timely identification of birth defects and developmental conditions.

For children displaced by the Rasuwa floods, returning to school is about more than continuing their education. It is helping them regain a routine, reconnect with friends and teachers, and experience small moments of normal childhood again.

After losing familiar homes, spaces and daily routines, many children are now staying at a Gumba in Syafrubesi. School has become a safe and supportive space where they can learn, play, interact and gradually feel connected again.

Psychosocial wellbeing is an essential part of recovery. Alongside food, shelter and other relief support, children need caring spaces where they can feel safe, express themselves, build friendships and simply be children.

One school day at a time, they are moving forward with hope. 💙

Heartfelt congratulations to Professor Dr. Sudha Basnet on her appointment as the Chairperson of the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC).

As a Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu, Dr. Basnet has made valuable contributions to health, child well-being, and medical education in Nepal. A long-term friend and well-wisher of Karuna Foundation Nepal, her appointment is a proud moment for all of us.

Glimpses from the two-day MIS Handover Training for focal persons from local governments in Solukhumbu and Okhaldhunga districts.

The training strengthened participants’ capacity to independently use and manage the DPRP Management Information System (MIS), helping ensure that data management, monitoring, and service follow-up continue smoothly after Karuna Foundation Nepal’s exit in Poush 2083.

An important step towards local ownership and the long-term sustainability of the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program (DPRP).

A one-day Disability Assessment Camp (DAC) was successfully completed in Kamal Rural Municipality, Jhapa.

During the camp, Persons with Disabilities were assessed, and 18 beneficiaries were recommended for disability identity cards.

Disability Assessment Camps play an important role in bringing essential assessment services closer to communities. They help persons with disabilities access disability identity cards, which can open pathways to social security allowances, health care, rehabilitation, assistive devices, education, livelihood opportunities, and other government services.

Such local-level initiatives are vital for ensuring that no one is left behind and that persons with disabilities can access their rights and support with dignity.

Every newborn deserves a healthy start. Early screening helps identify possible birth defects soon after birth, so families can receive guidance, care, and treatment when it matters most.

Through the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program (DPRP), Karuna Foundation Nepal partners with local governments and health workers to integrate early screening into newborn care.💙

We are delighted to welcome Penn International Impact Consulting (PIIC) as a partner of Karuna Foundation Nepal for the 2026/27 academic year.

PIIC is a nonprofit, student-run organization at the The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania that provides pro bono consulting support to NGOs worldwide. Having partnered with more than 50 NGOs across 40+ countries, PIIC focuses on strengthening organizations for long-term sustainability and growth.

Through this partnership, a senior consulting team of six members will work with Karuna Foundation Nepal on four key projects, contributing fresh perspectives and practical support to strengthen our impact.
