🌱🌧️ It’s planting season at Sapana!

With the rainy season bringing plenty of water, our students are taking advantage of the perfect time to make our campus greener! During their Friday Life Skills class, students spent the afternoon planting new greenery throughout the Sapana campus.

Every Friday, our students take part in Life Skills activities designed to build practical skills beyond the classroom!

Here’s to a greener, growing Sapana! 🌱

We just opened our 10th library! 📚💛

Our newest library at Omkot Secondary School opened last week! This school is in a remote community and their principal reached out asking for support to improve opportunities for his students. Our first answer was to focus on literacy!

We are so excited to begin with a space full of books, literacy classes, and a librarian helping children build a love of reading. The new library has over 500 books and students grades 1-5 will come daily for library classes with their librarian.

What started with one library has now grown into 10—bringing crucial reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to students across rural Nepal.

A huge milestone for ECC, and just the beginning for these young readers.

How many kids is too many on a see saw?

Our playground is such a place of joy on campus and even the big students get involved, piling in huge groups on either side. We love watching the small moments of happiness on campus that remind us Sapana is more than education. It is safety, joy, and the childhood everyone deserves.

Maybe we should build a few more see saws for all these sweet students.

We have new toilets at Sapana School! 🎉

This is a huge upgrade for us and a long time coming.

Swipe to see the facilities we inherited from the government school. There was no water access, no way to wash hands or flush, and the boys’ urinal was simply a wall. Students had a bucket to use to pour water down the toilet when water was available. Students regularly complained about how dirty and smelly the toilets were.

Today, we have clean toilets, sinks, water access, proper urinals, and water available for flushing. Students can wash their hands, stay cleaner, and use facilities that are safe and sanitary. For children who’ve never in their lives had access to clean running water, this is a huge moment.

Good education is about more than classrooms and textbooks. It’s also about creating a healthy environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

A huge upgrade for our students—and one we’re very proud of!

Strong math foundations start with hands-on learning!

Our Grade 2 students recently created their own place value sliders to help them understand ones, tens, and hundreds in a concrete, interactive way. By building and using their own manipulatives, students can actually see how numbers are constructed instead of simply memorizing them.

In Nepal, math is often taught through rote learning and repetition. Math is one subject we truly struggle with but we’re working to change that by giving students opportunities to explore, create, and truly understand mathematical concepts.

These simple tools may not look like much, but they are helping build the strong math foundations our students need for future success. đź’›

Our very first Curriculum Night at Sapana School ❤️📚

Last week, we invited parents school to learn about what their children will be studying this year and how we can best support them together.

Parents heard directly from teachers about learning goals, content, activities, and expectations for the year ahead. In communities facing extreme poverty with uneducated parents, parent involvement in school is incredibly important. When families and schools work together, children thrive!

Events like this are rare here, but at Sapana we believe parents are partners in their child’s education. We are so grateful our school can ensure children are supported at home as much as in school.

New water tap in campus!! A water tap may seem like a small thing. But at Sapana School, it is changing daily life for our students. đź’§

For the first time ever, our campus has a running water tap! And not just 1 but 5! Students can get a drink, wash their dishes, clean their hands, and cool off during the hot school day.

Our students do not have running water at home. They have to walk to communal water sources and carry water home in heavy jugs. Something as simple as turning on a tap feels like a huge luxury.

No more washing in buckets or fearing we will run out of water to drink. This tap means better hygiene, better health, and more comfort for our students every single day.

Our 1st-4th grade students had a special treat this week- a science experiment taught by the 8th and 9th graders!

Grades 8 and 9 were learning all about the scientific method and designed their own experiments to do with lower grades. Our big kids led experiments such “does it sink or float”, “what objects can roll?” and “which objects make the biggest noise”. Not only did they get practical experience with scientific learning, they also got practical experience with teaching!

We’re so proud of all our young scientists 🧑‍🔬 👩‍🔬
