☸️ Birthday of Milarepa: According to the Tibetan calendar, he was born on the 25th day of the 7th lunar month in Tibet, into a wealthy family; according to the Western calendar, he lived between approximately 1052 and 1135.
His family name was Josay, and the nomadic tribe to which his family belonged was called Khyungpo. His parents named him Mila Thöpaga, meaning "Good News," in celebration of the birth of their child. Later, as one of the most renowned Tibetan followers and teachers of the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, the Dharma (law, teaching), he earned the title Dzsecün (Jetsun), meaning "venerable master," from his followers. His father was named Mila Serab Gyaltsen, "Symbol of Wisdom," and his mother was named Nyangtsa Kargyen. When Milarepa was four years old, his only sister was born, whom they named Peta Gonkyi, "Happy Guardian."
Milarepa was only seven years old when his father died. His relatives stole his father's wealth, and Milarepa's mother forced him to learn black magic so that he could take revenge. Milarepa became skilled in black magic and killed many people, but over time he regretted his actions and sought a way to free himself from his bad karma. He was told to seek out Marpa, the translator. Marpa treated him very harshly, but eventually passed on the precious Kagyu teachings to Milarepa, who practiced them for years in isolated mountain retreats, became enlightened, and became famous for his spiritual songs about self-realization.

☸️ Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche Ngondro ("The Torch of Certainty") teaching series - online: His Eminence Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche will continue his Ngöndro (The Torch of Certainty) teaching series online on September 4, 5, and possibly 6. Rinpoche will give the teachings in English, but simultaneous interpretation will be available in several languages.
Rinpoche will continue with Dorje Sempa.
