Field Day: 6
Agency: Kanti Ishwori School, Pyaphal

'We women are not superior. Men and women are equal '.The day started from watching a documentary film about feminism and gender equality regarding sexual violence. It was very hearttouching, seeing the condition of the women in the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 and also the next incident was the partition of Bangladesh and Pakistan. After finishing the documentary, we also had a discussion where we reflected on it and shared our feelings. Then we headed up to Kanti Ishwori School and also we calculated the amount collected from our fundraiser activity, 'Chiya le garum Sewa'.
We discussed on how to best utilize the money and finally we decided to handover the money to Sita Miss for utilizing the money to buy resource to the students. We will be in touch with her to monitor the usage of funds as well. As today was the last day, giving the students sweaters from the money we collected and seeing them happy was the most stastifying thing we did throughout the 6 days.

DAY 7 - Field Work Service Day 6
Group 4 - Child Protection Area
Agency - Heart Beat

The last day of service field work for all of us was emotionally touched and connected. We all joined in excited to start our last day of service work at Heart beat. We were introduced by our facilitator Gaurav Kandel dai to two very inspiring people, Raj Kumar Pun and Dutta Ram from Baby Life Home & Saphalta HIV Shikshya Sadan School ( 1st school for HIV infected children ) , who had to sacrifice so much to just provide the basic rights of those kids with HIV. Finding out about what the kids with HIV go through and being seen as a burden by their own family and society, Raj Kumar sir, Dutta Ram sir and his team, being such selfless human beings, devoted themselves day and night and collected every penny to establish possibly the first school in Asia, Saphalta HIV Shikshya Sadan (first Nepali school for HIV-infected children), that provides education to kids with HIV. With their inspiring words we realized a help with all our heart is more valuable than helping with just an incentive. Also in the meantime Gaurav dai also oriented us that we had got an perspective on importance and need of Child Protection of underprivileged community kids from the kids coming to Heart beat Dream Centre, Issues and situations as well as Education being a change for the kids in remote and rural areas of Dolpa from the amazing Bid SnowYak and Snow Yak Foundation Fellows, Issues faced by kids with disability mostly the Visually Impaired (Blind Kids) from Binod Kafle and Ruku Ale from NIBDA Nepal, Children born as Intersex ( born with both ge****ls on birth) on their birth alongside challenges faced by LGBTQI+ people and most importantly Kids and Teenagers who face challenge in day to day life because of bully and harassment in school and community that we all live in. All of this made us also realize that we can't be just seeing this but play our own roles when we see and meet such people who really need child protection and most importantly be a moral support and motivate them in their lives. It was eye opening for all of us getting to know all of these in all these days.

As the day went forward our time at heartbeat was getting lesser. Being such an important part of our journey not only during Ace Social Work 2018 but also our life, Heart Beat has purified our heart and mind more than we have ever tried to keep it clean.

To thank Heart Beat for such a memorable experience we went to our near and dear Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket & Departmental Store to gift them a Token of love. We really wanted to get something that will not only be a symbol of our presence there but something that will be useful in the future. With our experience in the service days we realized getting a rice cooker will be the best gift. With the fund of Rs.15000/- ( also including the fine amount collected from late comers ) collected from our grand successful charity event, MO: MO for Change, it was made possible to buy the Baltra - Home Appliances Rice Cooker of 8.5 litre costing Rs.10860/-. We also had supported Heart Beat earlier to refill the LPG Gas during our Momo For Change event. Along with that we bought some warm socks for the cold winter days and some goodies for the charms of heartbeat, the kids. We also got them some Eggs as well as Lotte Chocopie for the kids for their after school snack at Heart Beat Dream Centre. To make the last day as memorable as possible we even bought a cake for celebration. Chocolates, Candies, snack products and soft drinks were bought as an add on to the celebrations.

Then transitioning back to Heart Beat, we felt such honored when Junita Mulmi didi thanked us for our service and handed us a certificate as a token of love on behalf of Heart Beat. We missed Juju Kaji Maharjan dai the Co-Founder of Heart Beat who was there to the first half and thanked us but as he was also supporting Chepang Kids in Dhading he had to leave for it. A proud moment for all of us when Gaurav dai mention even small but nice things we have done in contribution to our service at Heart beat. A meltdown of our hearts when we saw our misspelled names written by the kids thanking us for our service ona big chart paper. Wow, didn’t realize we had the power to make such an impact on kids in this short period of time. When such small help from us could impact the kids, Imagine making an impact on the society and the nation. Nothing seems impossible, it's just self belief and hard work that will always earn our success.

As the sun went down with a heavy heart we had to say goodbye to heartbeat, not forgetting what it taught us. These 6 days of service will never be forgotten where friendship were made, bonds became stronger, did things we never imagined to do and most importantly realizing that doing small things with great love will only make us a happy person. Even though people assume that serving others require one to be rich, it costs nothing to show love and kindness and now we known it better.

Thank you to each one for making this into reality

Group 1
Old age
Being the last day of our social work we wanted to make it a memorable one and a memorable day it was. We started our day by playing “cat and dog” and “mafia” which boosted our energy and enthusiasm. Then we were separated into different groups and were assigned to clean the corridors and the surroundings. The previous work day, we had planned to host a program to entertain the elderly people and have fun. So after cleaning we arranged the stage for the formal/entertainment program. Many of our friends participated in the program and entertained the elderly as well as everyone present. Some recited their poems, sang songs and danced. The elderly people were also encouraged to participate and a few of them joined. Some of us danced with the elderly people and they were extremely happy. The expression of happiness on their faces were priceless and also put a smile on our faces too. After the entertainment program, we facilitated the staff present in the old age home and they were extremely grateful towards us. After the conclusion of the program, we all gathered in the hall and together had our lunch, prepared by our facilitator (Yajaswi Rai) and our friends. After our lunch, we all shared our experience of the past six work days. Then we distributed greeting cards and socks to all the elderly people of the old age home. They were extremely grateful towards us and thanked us. After that we all filled our activity log and our facilitator briefed us about report writing and presentation.

In conclusion, on behalf of all the members, I’d like to thank Ace Institute of Management and NIR Holidays for conducting the social work program and providing us a platform to help the ones in need. The experiences and memories we made during this program will forever be with us. I’d also like to thank our facilitator, Yahaswi Rai for guiding us throughout the work days. Without her guidance, we’d not be able to perform any of the activities.

“Give love and chance to differently abled people with full participation and equality”
Disabled Service Association organized a musical performance and Thanka painting exhibition yesterday to celebrate “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”. The theme for this year is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.
Many honorable personalities were a part of this program including the mayor of Lalitpur, Chiribabu Maharjan. Our team gathered at the Nepal Academy Hall at 12pm, excited to be a part of this incredible event. Duties and responsibilities were divided among the group so that everyone could perform their task in an effective manner.
Helping at the registration desk, backstage, seat arrangement, guiding and helping the guests were a few tasks given to us by our facilitator. We started by decorating the main hall with the event flex and thanka paintings according to the instructions given to us. We were also fortunate enough to indulge in Newari food- Samay Baji which was solely prepared for all the volunteers.
The event started with the national anthem sung by the kids of DSA. Watching a girl from our agency perform Kumari Dance with just one leg was truly mesmerizing and emotional for all of us. We were so proud of DSA kids. Moreover, their parents were truly surprised by their children’s performance. We ended our day by gathering in a hall and taking a group photo with the same enthusiasm shown at the beginning.

Group 7
Area : Environment

So we have reached to the last leg of Field work for ACE social work before we move on to our report writing. For the final task, we were divided into two groups where one group sold green thread to the general public and the other group did case studies and proposal management on any environmental issues.

We had a perfect closure to day 6 with bbq and cakes. What a day it was. Truly an epitome of 'Work hard, party harder'.

Morale of the day:
Every story has an end , but in life every ending is just the new beginning

"Be the sunshine you're searching for."
group 6 - Orphanage home.
So our working days in Naya Nepal Samaj Kendra comes to an end. Was the process easy ? Nope , but was it worth it ? Absolutely. It just seems like yesterday that we entered the place for the first time and today we worked together for the last of this social work. Words definitely cannot describe about the things we learned here. We made a lot of friends and enjoyed the whole process. Any difficult task seemed easy and fun when we work together. Our facilitator Mr Anish Bhatta is such a Down to earth person and his humbleness plus his own effort in the work never made a day go to waste. By looking at the things we did in the whole process brings up a smile in each of our faces. All of the members never brought any problem and did the toughest of the work with an ease. We are very thankful to our social work as we take this more than an opportunity. We are also very thankful for Naya Nepal Samaj Kendra for having us. We completed our last day by adding some beauty to the garden and made some treats for the children. Eventually the day ends and we promise within our selves for the kids that !

“World AIDS awareness Day”

On 1st December, 2018 we the members of Group 5 celebrated World AIDS Awareness day. By putting on red ribbons and exchanging messages about the causes and consequence of HIV/AIDS, we celebrated the cause. By taking one minute of silence, we gave solidarity for the ones who were the victims of the AIDS.
From this platform we from group 5 would like to convey the message about the effects and causes of AIDS. Let’s remember the slogan which is being used worldwide, “Don’t break the promise”

“The last day it was” everyone was saying but my fellow friends, the report writing and the presentation is still left.
The day was cloudy and cold but we still with full dedication come to the service of the society. The day started with full energetic and warm-up games. We played the game blind folded catch me where Prabindra Tamang was the blind folded. Then on the musical beats we played musical chairs where again Prabindra Tamang won the game. Then the game was Fire in the Mountain. After running and gathering and catching each other Simon Kc , Ayush Shrestha and Raju Grg were victorious.
We then gathered in the meeting room for the discussion of today’s activities. We all were divided into 6 groups where each group had to do a survey on the Management of Wastage in the Patan Durbar Square. We all then dispersed for the task in the Patan premises. Each group interacted with 2 local coffee shops and around 10 people for the survey. From various age groups from teenagers to adults to senior people we discussed and had done survey for the management of wastage in Cultural Heritage Sites. The people praised and gave us various suggestions also, for the cause which we were fighting for.
At last we were successful in interacting with 12 coffee shops and many individuals. The report of the survey and the results will be given to the Local institutions. And after that we all headed for the lunch.
After the lunch we interacted with Nirmal Ratna Shakya, Chairperson- Ward no-16, where we briefed him about the events and work we did in the overall weeks, from cleanliness to our campaign to report writing. He summarized and told us about the works which the local representatives were doing and the projects which were going to happen in the respective area. He thanked us for the service which we did in the field and called upon the youth to be the future of our communities and our nation. After farewell with Mr. Nirmal Ratna Shakya, we then interacted with Shyam Sharma, Member of Mangal Tole Sudhar Samiti, where he debated about the challenges which the organisation was facing and aware us about the importance of Volunteerism and participation. Our facilitor, Ms. Khadka, thanked the oraganisation on behalf of all of us for the support which they were providing to us.
We then moved downstairs for the “Handover of Dustbin” to the municipality. Mr Shyam Sharma cut the ribbon and the small event was completed. We then celebrated “World AIDS Awareness Day” for the solidarity to all the victims of AIDS.
Then we moved to our room and there we exchanged our gratefulness to everyone who had helped us in the overall days. We thanked each other and shared the experiences which we had throughout the days. Then we celebrated the birthday of Sujohn Shrestha, Raissa Ranjit, Hemant Agrawal and Harsheet Kedia. At last we sang songs and danced for the memories and experiences we shared. We then had done small farewell and all of us departed to our home taking experiences, memories, happiness, emotions, gratitude and a sense of service to the society.

ADD COLORS TO LIFE.
Field work day 5
Group 6
Orphanage Home
With the guidance of our facilitator Mr Anish Bhatta today we made the best out of the day. We painted different rooms of the orphanage. And the dull exterior wall was made into a beautiful one. We helped the kids to wash and dry off their clothes and bags. Getting more and more attached everyday with the young ones at Naya Nepal Samaj Kendra has spiritually uplifted us. On one hand we are more than blessed to work for a change in the society but on the other, our working days are almost coming to an end. But we are happy of what we are today.

DAY 6 - Field Work Service Day 5
Group 4 - Child Protection Area
Agency - Heart Beat

So the day started off with us arriving at heartbeat and carrying up with our cleaning activities where all of us dispersed in groups and cleaned the Heart Beat Dream centre from ground, sitting and library area, activity room, maker space, corridors, kitchen and office. As it was cold we made tea for all of us and then we had a wonderful and insightful session with Mr. Binod Kafle and Ruku Ale from Nepal Integrated Blind Development Association (NIBDA Nepal) where they also run a residential centre (hostel) for the visually impaired children. He shared with us his experience about loosing his vision when he was at the age of 20. When all hope was lost for himself he embarked on a journey of helping others who had the same conditions he did. He told us about how visually impaired people are better focused, sharp and talented than we are. He gave us examples of the kids at his hostel who were toppers within a class of normal children and about Mr.Kamal Lamichhane who was the first visually impaired person pursuing his PhD in Japan. Mr.Binod told us about his NIBDA hostel where there were 12 kids as hostellers and 3 day boarders. We also heard from Ruku Ale from NIBDA who met an accident when she was 6 month old and is differently abled with her hand and burn scars on her body. She also shared us her struggle and struggle of differently able people and her involvement with NIBDA.

After the session we went for lunch and came back to join for the second half. We did a Tree of Life activity session conducted by our facilitator Gaurav Kandel dai which helped us reflect upon ourselves as an individual. We learnt to know about our priorities in life, key people in our life whom we are grateful for as well as several others which indeed was a self awakening session. We were then joined by kids who had come to Heart Beat for their After school activity, some of us showed us the fairies they made the last day and how beautiful they were. We played with them while some of us helped them with the homework. Later on as dusk fell we reflected on the day and signed in to our log files and left to our homes for we had a week of college ahead of us...

Ace Social Work 2018

Social Work Activities 2018 is a volunteering project organsied by Ace Institute of Management (AIMS) in collaboration with Nir Holidays. The fresh recruits in the BBA and BBI program of AIMS will volunteer in seven different areas viz: Oldage Home, Child Protection, Education, Differently Able People, Orphanage Homes, Cultural Heritage Sites and Environment. The program starts from 7 October and will end in 9 December. The total time period of the program is 75 hours.

AIMS has been organizing this program every year. In the past, this project has yielded amazing outcome both for the students and for the organization they volunteered for. The trend of volunteerism culture is flourishing, and it is no longer only the agenda of the students of social work. Volunteerism is a means to make this world a better place to live, and NIR also has been playing its part by organizing the social work activities to the willing international and domestic volunteers. Volunteerism has also been promoted as the means of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,2030
