Tomorrow, Nepal votes.

Some Indigenous movements have chosen a collective “no vote” as an act of self-determination. Some of us are unable to vote due to age, migration, labour, disability, or care responsibilities. Some are choosing not to, for reasons rooted in justice, land, and representation.

Swipe through to understand:
• Why some communities are abstaining
• Why that stance is political
• Why many cannot vote even if they want to
• And how you can still participate in the larger discourse

Engage with the questions. Ask what true representation looks like for Indigenous women and communities.

Read the position papers. Check the manifesto analyses by .np and

Comment your thoughts. What does participation mean to you this election?

Tomorrow’s election is important for Indigenous communities across Nepal. Indigenous communities have clearly asked for:
• Fair and proportional representation
• Protection of land and resources
• Respect for Indigenous languages and education
• Real implementation of ILO 169 and UNDRIP
• Policies that include women, youth, and marginalized communities

As we vote, let’s stay informed, stay peaceful, and choose with awareness.

Our team set out to create a site that would act as an entry point of information and resources on Indigenous Women and Girls, and of course to all the youths who want to learn and support. May our website be a safe space for us all where we grow together.

FIG celebrates the United Nation’s Declaration of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Women and Girls on September 5th.✨

Today, we honor the resilience, knowledge, and leadership of Indigenous women and girls who hold our cultures, languages, and histories with courage and care. Their roles in protecting land, biodiversity, and community wellbeing have always been essential, even when rarely recognized.🌿

The UN’s decision to mark September 5 aligns with CEDAW General Recommendation 39, which calls for stronger protection of the rights, identities, and voices of Indigenous women and girls👩🏼. It reminds us that their meaningful participation, their knowledge systems, and their leadership must be respected and supported at every level.🌟

As we commemorate this day, FIG stands in solidarity with Indigenous women and girls the knowledge keepers, storytellers, protectors, and change makers who continue to guide our communities forward. With this, we also remember all the Indigenous women and girls in Nepal who are fighting on the frontlines to defend their land from grabbing and unjust dispossession.🍁

May this day strengthen our collective commitment to justice, dignity, and the full recognition of their contributions not only today, but every day.❤️

The Reading Circle: Jambure Ghang is a participatory gathering space where we read, pause, and reflect together.

𝗧𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗠 𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺🐞

📅Date: November 29, 2025
⏰Time: 1:00–3:00 PM
📍Venue: Community Reading Room, Nepal Art Council (NAC), Babarmahal

Through the story of a Maam (grandmother in Tamang Language) defending her land in Bojheni amid land grabs, police intimidation, and the looming threat of displacement from a hydropower transmission line, we explore how land, women, and Indigenous resistance intersect.

This Reading Circle by FIG is part of PhotoKTM6 and invites audiences to collectively read excerpts, rethink dominant narratives of “development,” and honor the everyday courage of Indigenous women who protect their land, memory, and home.

Jambure Ghang is a feature story written by Babita Tamang as part of her Indigenous Media Fellowship 2025 at FIG. Her work was displayed back in August '25 during the exhibition "युल-सा, साप्राला ह्याङ्" also organized by FIG🌷
