KAT Centre

KAT Centre KAT Centre is a non-profit organization established to promote animal welfare in Nepal. Please read more about our work in detail: www.katcentre.org

KAT Centre was founded in 2004 by Jan Salter, a British woman living in Nepal who was determined to find a humane solution to the problem of street dog over-population. In our sixteen year history, we have grown steadily to the point where we are now the biggest and oldest animal welfare organisation in Nepal. As we have grown, our location has changed several times, but the founding principals and our work remain the same:

- To rescue and treat sick and injured animals living on the streets of Kathmandu.
- To lower the street dog (and cat) population by spaying and neutering.
- To reduce the incidence of rabies and other viruses through vaccination and education.
- To promote animal welfare in the widest sense of the term. We are constantly looking ahead and developing our long term strategy for the continued management and protection of the street animals of Kathmandu.

Rest easy, baby Leo. 🐾🤍

Today, we said goodbye to one of our most loved house dogs. Leo was more than just a dog at KAT — he was our little guard dog, always watching over the place and somehow becoming everyone’s favorite.

His presence was part of our everyday life, and his absence already feels so heavy. The whole team is heartbroken to lose him. 💔 Thank you, Leo, for all the love, the memories, and for being our special boy.

Rest easy, baby. We’ll miss you more than words can say. 🕊️🐾🤍

🐾 Keeping Our Communities Safe from Rabies! 💉

In collaboration with Godawari Municipality, we have successfully completed rabies vaccination in Wards 1, 2 and 4, helping protect community dogs and the people who live alongside them.

Our campaign continues tomorrow as we head to Wards 5 and 6 to reach and vaccinate more community dogs.
A big thank you to the Godawari Municipality team, KAT Centre team, and all our wonderful community volunteers for joining hands with us and making this campaign possible. ❤️

The work continues — one dog, one vaccination, one community at a time. 🐾

We welcome veterinarians, veterinary students, veterinary technicians, and anyone who simply cares about street dogs and wants to contribute. You don’t need to be a vet to make a difference — your time, support, and willingness to help can go a long way. ❤️

After the floods, the work continues. 🐾

Our team travelled again with Animal Nepal to Betrawati, Rasuwa, to support animals and communities affected by the recent floods. During our visit, we assessed 6 dogs, all of whom were found to be in normal condition. They received general health check-ups and treatment for ecto- and endoparasites. We also handed over dog food and feed materials to local communities, provided medicines and veterinary supplies to the Animal Department of Uttargaya Rural Municipality, and supported carcass management in the affected areas.

Disasters leave behind more than damaged homes and roads—they leave people and animals vulnerable and in need of continued support. The work doesn’t end when the water recedes.

A heartfelt thank you to Animal Nepal for their incredible effort and commitment on the ground, and to everyone around the world who is stepping forward to help people and animals during this crisis. Every contribution, every helping hand, and every act of kindness matters. ❤️🐾

Our team will now head towards Dunche. Let’s continue doing whatever we can to help. 🙏

Standing with the flood-affected communities!

Following the devastating floods, our team travelled to Bidur Municipality with essential supplies for people and animals, including food, drinking water, sanitary materials, and medical supplies.

Due to ongoing risks and restrictions in some affected areas, we could not conduct a full assessment of the animals. We did not find any injured animals during our visit, but many may have been killed, displaced, or forced to escape. We remain concerned about those who may still be injured, trapped, or without food and shelter and supplies were handed over to the authorities at the Army Camp.

We are grateful to Sneha’s Care Voan Nepal Nepal Animal Welfare and Research Center - NAWRC for joining us in this effort. 🤝

We will continue monitoring the situation and, when access is safe and possible, return to support animals in need.

For the people. For the animals. For those who have lost everything. 🙏💙

🚨 On Our Way to Help 🐾❤️

We’ve left for one of the flood-affected areas with food and essential supplies, hoping to reach animals in need — and help people wherever we can.

In times like these, every bit of help matters. Please help in whatever way you can, whether through donations, supplies, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.
And please keep all the flood victims — both humans and animals — in your thoughts and prayers. 🙏❤️

Let’s come together and help those who need us most. 🐾🤝❤️

Adoption Appeal!

Meet Lily, a gentle Labrador, who was abandoned near Maitidevi Mandir and later found by a kind informer. She was diagnosed with CTVT but has now fully recovered and is ready for a loving home. 🥹
She’s calm, gentle, super friendly, vaccinated and spayed — all she needs is a little food, a safe home, and lots of love. ❤️
To support her new family, KAT will cover her medical expenses for one year after adoption.

🏡 Give Lily the second chance she deserves. Adopt Lily! Dm us or call us at 9801912476 if you or anyone you know are interested!

He didn’t need a miracle. He needed someone to care. ❤️

When he first arrived at KAT Center, severe mange had taken away almost everything—his coat, his comfort, and the way he looked at the world.
But with treatment, patience, nourishment and a little love, he slowly began to heal.
And look at him now. 🥹

A beautiful reminder that sometimes, all a broken body needs is a chance to recover. ❤️
From suffering to sunshine. From mange to this. ✨

From a body fighting CTVT to a boy ready to reclaim his life. ❤️

Weeks of medication, nutritious food, care and, most importantly, a little hope—and look at him now. 🥹 He’s healed, he’s happy, and he’s ready to go home… back to the streets where he belongs. 🐾

Donate today and help us treat more CTVT cases like his, giving more dogs the chance to heal and return to the lives they deserve. ❤️
