Human Harmony Nepal organizes community development projects that address crucial needs in disadvantaged, marginalized, and rural areas in Nepal. With these projects - in which we value humanity, integrity, impartiality, empathy respect - we work closely with communities to support women empowerment programs, teaching programs, health care programs, and construction programs. Despite the poverty,
Nepal has much to offer: its stunning landscapes, its historic fascinating culture. Volunteers are welcomed to the country that deservingly has the reputation of the warm heart of South Asia. Volunteering for Human Harmony Nepal will provide you with a unique insight into the Nepali way of living, a huge sense of satisfaction, and the opportunity to develop a range of personal and professional skills. You will be joining a welcoming community with whom youβll form close relationships, because you will be invited into peopleβs homes, sharing dinner or the famous tasty Nepali tea with locals. You need to speak English, furthermore, we expect 100% commitment, motivation ambition. We will ensure that your skills are put to good use. You will work with a high degree of autonomy while at the same time enjoying our support to develop and deliver any ideas and activities that particularly interest you. We will always be there to answer questions, provide guidance when needed and listen to and respond to your feedback. Volunteering for Human Harmony Nepal is a great way to make a difference and we are supporting all volunteers in the delivery of our services. Our work entirely depends on the creativity, generosity, and energy of volunteers like you - which is why we want to thank you in advance! What we do
Our work responds to the essential needs of any human being, and can be enumerated as follows:
(Evidently, we mention basic examples of our main activities, but you should feel free to introduce any further suggestions and make use of your special skills. By matching your skills and interests with the needs of Human Harmony Nepal, we will identify and arrange exciting projects for you to work on.)
- Educational programs:
Education is one of the most vital elements for making life useful and worthwhile, and everyone is equally entitled to get proper education. Unfortunately increasing access to education remains a major challenge for Nepal: many communities donβt have access to education, and if they do, primary students do not enter secondary schools and only one-half of them complete secondary schooling. Human Harmony Nepal provides teaching projects in several fields; such as teaching English or a subject (math, geography, arts, educational programs for girls, etc.). When volunteers are not in the classroom teaching, they are outside, reading, playing sports and games with the students. Most of these schools are also running quite low on infrastructure and resources: you can therefore help fill up these voids (supplying books, help refurbish the school premises, help design a proper curriculum, etc.).
- Woman empowerment programs:
Discrimination towards women is a particular problem in Nepal since women are very often victims of physical and psychological abuses (conjugal violence, r**e, discrimination, insults, forced marriages, lower female literacyβ¦). Another major problem in Nepal is trafficking of human beings: girls and women are trafficked within Nepal and abroad. They are forced to work for the s*x industry but also as domestic servants, factory workers, etc. Each year aout 5,000 to 10,000 women and girls are trafficked to India alone. In order to fulfill the goal of gender equality, our Women empowerment programs aims at ensuring Nepalese women and girls awareness about their fundamental rights as a women and grand them equal opportunities with men and boys in education, employment, leadership and decision-making at all levels. You will therefore be able to help us organize awareness campaigns that you will be presenting to women living in marginalized communities.
- Construction work:
The April 2015 Nepal earthquake killed nearly 9,000 people and injured nearly 22,000. It was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake. Hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless with entire villages destroyed, across many districts of the country. Since Nepal has little ability to fund a major reconstruction effort on its own, our projects are focused on initiatives within our local communities, which have needs around building and renovating homes and rebuild basic infrastructure in mountain villages.
- Health programs:
The right to live a healthy life should be available to every individual. Unfortunately, diseases are more prevalent in Nepal than in other South Asian countries, especially in rural areas (leading diseases and illnesses are diarrhea, gastrointestinal disorders, goiters, intestinal parasites, leprosy, visceral leishmaniasis, and tuberculosis). Nepal is ranked 139th in life expectancy with the average Nepali living to approximately 66 years. With or without a medical degree, you can help improve healthcare by teaching about diseases and basic everyday life gestures to adopt. Donations
As any other NGO, Human Harmony Nepal is a non-profitable organization. Therefore, our functioning entirely depends on your donations. If you would like to organize a fundraising campaign or make a specific donation in order to support our work, we would be very grateful. Most volunteers raise money in advance, during or after their time with us. We also encourage volunteers to share their experiences with those in their hometowns, universities or workplaces.
