A Call for Help - Nepal Flood Disaster

The devastating flash flood that struck Nepal on 26 August originated near the Tibet–Nepal border and surged through the Bhotekoshi River, causing catastrophic destruction along the river corridor and downstream areas, including Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan.

The scale of this tragedy is beyond imagination. Entire settlements have been swept away or severely damaged, with homes, roads, bridges and vital infrastructure destroyed. Families have lost loved ones, and hundreds of people remain missing as rescue and recovery efforts continue. As of the latest reports, at least 157 people have lost their lives, with hundreds still unaccounted for.

In this heartbreaking time, we have started raising funds to support families and communities affected by this disaster.

Our Founder Raj Gautam visited Days for Girls Bordertown, South Australia today as a recipient of the Royce and Jean Abbey Vocational Scholarship sponsored by Rotary Club of Essendon and hosted by Rotary Club of Bordertown. It is a registered Australian not for profit established in 2014 and is also affiliated with DfG International.

Days for Girls works to eliminate the stigma and limitations associated with menstruation so that women and girls have improved health, education and livelihoods. This team have supported thousands of girls with life-changing menstrual health solutions. The DFG PAD is safe, beautiful and washable solution for managing menstruation. DfG Pads are delivered around the world in patent-winning kits along with vital health education.

It was a pleasure to welcome Raj, a Royce and Jean Abbey Vocational Scholarship recipient with the Rotary Club of Bordertown and currently being hosted by the Rotary Club of Macedon Ranges whilst in Victoria. Within his club, the Rotary Club of Kathmandu, Raj is heavily involved in establishing toilet facilities especially for female students in rural Nepal and is here to gain experience with youth projects to take back to his homeland.

Our Founder Raj Gautam visited Rotary Club of Essendon, the home club of Rotary International President 1988-89 Royce Abbey on 16th April, 2024 in Essendon, VIC, Australia as a recipient of "The Royce and Jean Abbey Vocational Scholarship".

Over the next few months, he will be engaging with a diverse range of organisations working in disaster prevention and response, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, youth participation, rural development, and sustainable development. He will also involve in different fund raising events for long-term projects for Nepal including construction of girls friendly toilets in rural schools, rural health clinics and community centres.

As, the first Nepalese to receive this fellowship will enable him to gain practical experience in the areas of community development.

We are very glad to share that our Founder will be one of the Guest Speaker at the Rotary International Zone 8 Conference 2024 – Dream, Dare, Deliver happening 1st to 3rd November 2024 in Queenstown, New Zealand.

This zone is situated in the South Pacific, the Zone includes Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, Tonga and Vanuatu with 20 Rotary Districts.

Meet Rajendra Gautam: (aka Raj)

Young social activist Raj, is the Past President of the Rotaract Club of Kathmandu and the current vice President of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu, the first Rotary Club of Nepal. 🇳🇵

He was a Youth Exchange student to Hong Kong in 2014 and an International RYLA participant to Bangladesh in 2012. 🇧🇩🇭🇰

He has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Tribhuvan University Kathmandu and is the founder President of Solidarity Nepal, an entirely non-profitable and social welfare organisation aiming to establish and implement sustainable education, health, drinking water and community development programs in the rural areas of Nepal. 🧑‍🎓

Raj has expertise in the areas of disaster management, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and sustainable recovery to restore the livelihoods of affected communities.
He has reconstructed 20 schools destroyed in the 2015 Nepal earthquake. 🙏

Raj is also part of the team providing educational scholarships to more than 1000 vulnerable children a year in Nepal, benefiting 10,000 plus children to date and is working on several projects, including construction of girls-friendly toilets in remote schools, construction of rural health clinics and community centers. 👷‍♂️🚽

Raj has been recognised at national and international levels by different organisations, including "Peace Hero 2019" and was the recipient of a Rotary New Generations Service Exchange fellowship and the Royce and Jean Abbey Vocational Scholarship from the Rotary Foundation. 🥰
