🌡️☀️By 2070, around 520 million people across South Asia could face at least one month of dangerous heat every year. A new World Bank Group report shows how heat is driving up costs, reducing worker productivity, straining health systems, and threatening urban competitiveness.

The report offers a clear roadmap and solutions, including strengthening Heat Action Plans, investments in heat-resilient infrastructure, expanding sustainable cooling, protecting the most exposed workers, and mobilizing private capital.

🌡️☀️Extreme heat is no longer just a health emergency; it is a development crisis. South Asia is losing the equivalent of 31 million full-time every year to rising temperatures. By 2050, the region's economy could shrink by nearly 7 percent. The vulnerable populations, including informal workers, women, the elderly, and low-income households bear the heaviest burden.
The good news is that solutions exist.

Our new World Bank Group report,𝐀 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚'𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, lays out a strategic roadmap to build heat resilience across 3 areas:
