📢 AIN TGDMCC Meeting Highlights | 2026 Planning & Monsoon Preparedness

The AIN Working Group on Disaster Management and Climate Change TGDMCC held its meeting at Plan International Office.
Key Discussions:
✅ 2026 Action Plan: Agreed to focus on joint evidence generation, knowledge sharing, capacity building, and stronger engagement with climate change colleagues.
✅ Monsoon & Risk Outlook: Reviewed NDRRMA’s coordinated monsoon preparedness. Shared updates on drought, heatwave, and climate hazard planning.
✅ Strengthening Coordination: Emphasized closer work with AIN provincial chapters and NDRRMA’s new leadership to ensure harmonized response across provinces.
✅ Policy & Advocacy: Reflected on AIN Development Dialogue and agreed to push for clearer policy dialogue on DRR, health, and education.
✅ Digital & Visibility: Progress shared on AIN’s digitalization platform + plans to better showcase collective INGO impact through videos.
The group also discussed marking World Humanitarian Day under the AIN platform and strengthening DRR-Climate Change linkages. Together for a more prepared, accountable, and resilient Nepal.

Voices of the Youth from Madhesh Pradesh: Intergenerational Dialogue

AIN and NFN through the EU Civic Space Project jointly organized an Intergenerational Dialogue with the youths of Madesh Province in Janakpur. The event brought together a diverse cohort of youth and civil society leaders, ensuring marginalized representation of youth voices, providing a platform to openly discuss issues like good governance, corruption, and youth exclusion.

Young participants shared their views & recommendations through panel discussion on role of youth in strengthening civic space and building public trust and youth as civil society sctor: present and future. The dialogue aimed at fostering meaningful interaction between youths and civil society actors was graced by the Hon. Chief Minister of Madhesh Pradesh Hon. Krishna Prasad Yadav, Hon. Minister Sharada Thapa, Ministry of Labor and Transport, Hon. Rajkumar Singh, Vice Chair of Policy & Planning Commission, Provincial Government Officials, AIN Member INGOs, NGO Federation members, civil society organizations, activists and media persons.

AIN Chairperson Sanjay Karki and NFN President Arjun Bhattarai had attended the dialogue chaired by NFN President of Madhesh Pradesh, Ram Babu Sah amidst the huge gathering of hundred plus young participants from all the districts of Madhesh.

A presentation on ‘Intergenerational Roles for Digital Democracy, Governance and Civic Space, challenges and contribution of CSOs’ was made by NFN President Arjun Bhattarai setting the context for discussion. AIN Chairperson Sanjay Karki in his remarks shared about the contributions of AIN Members in Madhesh Province; he emphasized on the need of bringing together all generations X, Y & Z in terms of sharing wise experiences and tapping youth energy, building bridges to fill in the gaps, exploring entrepreneurship and taking risks together in a joint development space through common agendas. AIN SC Member Dr Samjhana Bista emphasized that Youth should always remember to claim their space and their rights.

Youth participants expressed their needs and challenges, emphasizing job opportunities, skill development, capacity building & support from government. They shared concerns over social malpractices like dowry system, child marriage, discrimination based on caste, child labor and rampant corruption. Young voices demanded for well-equipped schools with proper labs & computers, technical training, proper toilet facilities for girls, special digital apps where girls can report about assaults anonymously and provisions from government to address the cases along with the rights to voice during policy drafting processes.

As a way forward a 15-point Joint Commitment was announced; this will be presented to the respective government for further action.

AIN HR Working Group meeting was hosted by Mercy Corps at Sanepa, Lalitpur office on 19th June . The meeting kicked off with a warm welcome from the Country Director, Suraj Sigdel who emphasized the strategic value of HR in driving smooth program delivery and navigating organizational transitions.

Anupama Ghimire, Finance and Compliance Manager at Mercy Corps, presented on critical highlights of the recent budget, impacting the development sector, alongside briefing on the latest income tax provisions and changes.

The participants engaged in an insightful session- “HR conversation/kurakani” where guests’ speakers- Dyuti Baral and Sabina Tuladhar, shared their valuable experiences from their own HR journey. They emphasized on evolving role of HR as true business partners – a conventional shift from traditional problem solvers. The group had an interesting discussion and exchanged ideas on future workplace and strategies to effectively engage and empower multigenerational workforce.

Safety and Security Working Group meeting was held on 19 June 2026, bringing together representatives from different INGOs to exchange updates, share reflections, and discuss collective preparedness, coordination, and practical safety measures in the current operating environment.

AIN Steering Committee Member Tara Chettry, Country Director of Save the Children in Nepal, highlighted the importance of shared responsibility, proactive preparedness, and coordinated action in strengthening safety and security across organizations. She emphasized that safety and security remain collective priorities and encouraged continued collaboration among organizations to help safeguard staff, partners, communities, and beneficiaries, particularly in times of uncertainty, natural disasters, and evolving operational risks.

The meeting also included a practical session on developing a Flood Safety Plan. Discussions focused on site-specific planning, hazard identification, safe routes, early warning information, communication challenges, equipment requirements, team roles, and overall response readiness. Participants also reviewed the Response STAR approach: Stop, Think, Act, and Review. This practical tool supports safer and more informed decision-making before, during, and after emergency response activities.

Overall, the session reinforced the importance of preparedness, timely communication, appropriate equipment, trained personnel, and coordinated action, particularly during the monsoon and flood season.

Message from AIN Chairperson Mr Sanjay Karki

I am honored and humbled by my nomination as the Chairperson of the Association of International NGOs in Nepal. On behalf of AIN, my deepest respect and gratitude to our former Steering Committee and outgoing Chair for the collective work and strong foundation you built over the years. AIN’s thirty-year journey stands on that dedication, and please be assured that we carry this forward with pride.

We step into this role in a new changing and rapid evolving context. The global economy is shifting, development financing is evolving, and Nepal faces both urgent challenges and clear opportunities. Our country needs resilient communities, quality education, health, climate action, and inclusive growth — goals that align with Nepal’s vision for a prosperous and just society. We need to focus on new alliances, that are not only limited to civil society but more so to forge strong partnership with the wider stakeholder base for joint and innovative solutions. Your support is of utmost importance.

The new team’s commitment is simple. Let us Listen first - to our members, to partners, to the voices of the people we serve. Let us Unite stronger - AIN’s strength is in collective action; united we stand more effective and meaningful. Let us adapt and deliver - In this changing global context, we must innovate while staying rooted in humanitarian principles and Nepal’s developmental priorities.

Our strategic focus should be on strengthening ownership & partnership with Government; Nepal needs INGOs as partners, not parallel systems. We seek to deepen coordination with our line ministries and position AIN as the trusted bridge between INGOs, Govt, local govts. Provinces, our NGO partners, private sector and our donors.
We seek to make AIN the coordination hub and facilitate where INGOs have strongest value, aligning with Nepal’s National Development commitments and LDC priorities.

Let us come together to protect Civic Space and Humanitarian Principles. We stay committed to uphold space for INGOs to operate neutrally and effectively in Nepal. Likewise, support members in compliance, risk management, and ethical safeguarding. We pledge to speak with one voice when policy affects the whole sector. In alignment with the need of this time, our goal is digital transformation and using technology for coordination and facilitate smooth operational & development space.

I look forward to working with each one of you - the new team, long-standing members, and partners across sectors. Let’s honor our past, respond to today’s challenges, and move Nepal’s goals forward, together to ensure a meaningful future.

AIN members implementing Education projects had attended the coordination meeting called by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Private & Cooperative NGO Coordination Branch on 12 June.

The objective of the discussion was to make the investment made by INGOs & NGOs in the education sector more effective & inclusive. Organizations briefly presented about the achievements, innovations, budget, thematic areas & geographic coverage and challenges faced during implementation. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Secretary Choodamani Paudel and attended by Joint Secretary Chandrakant Bhusal and facilitated by Under Secretary Dr. Samantamani Acharya along with distinguished personel from the Ministry. Chairperson of AIN Dr SP Kalaunee along with thirty AIN Member INGOs had attended the meeting. It was a wonderful initiative by the Ministry to enhance coordination, improve collaboration between the Govt. & Non Govt. entitities, reducing duplication and strengthening cooperation within the Education Sector.
