Yak Chauri FarmersтАЩ Federation Nepal (YCFFN) was pleased to be represented at the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd International Climate Camp (ICC) 2026, held in Kathmandu.
On behalf of YCFFN, Er. Krishna Maharjan, Secretariat Member, shared reflections on the importance of yak and chauri herding in NepalтАЩs Himalayan region. He highlighted that yak herding is not only a traditional livelihood practice, but also a vital part of mountain culture, biodiversity conservation, food systems, and climate resilience.
The session was held in the presence of the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Members of Parliament, climate experts, youth leaders, researchers, and distinguished national and international guests.
YCFFN emphasized that Himalayan herders are among the frontline communities facing the direct impacts of climate change, including changing snowfall patterns, pasture degradation, water scarcity, animal health risks, and increasing livelihood insecurity. Protecting yak and chauri herding means protecting the Himalayas, supporting indigenous knowledge, strengthening mountain economies, and advancing climate justice.
