Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Himalayan Yak Herders at UNCCD COP17, Mongolia 🇳🇵🇧🇹
On the sidelines of the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties (UNCCD COP17) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, a productive bilateral meeting was held between the Hon'ble Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Government of Nepal, with the participation of representatives from the Yak Chauri Farmers' Federation Nepal (YCFFN).
The discussion focused on strengthening Nepal–Bhutan cooperation in:
1. Sustainable rangeland restoration and management;
2. Conservation and sustainable development of yak and chauri farming;
3. Improving the livelihoods of Himalayan yak herders;
4. Addressing the impacts of climate change on high-altitude pastoral communities; and
Advancing the establishment of the Himalayan Yak Herders' Network as a regional platform for collaboration among yak herders of Bhutan, Nepal, and India.
During the meeting, the Secretary of Nepal's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development expressed support for the participation of the Yak Chauri Farmers' Federation Nepal in the Himalayan Yak Herders' Network and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to providing the necessary support to strengthen Nepal's engagement in this regional initiative.
The Himalayan Yak Herders' Network aims to enhance regional cooperation, promote knowledge exchange, conserve yak genetic resources, strengthen sustainable pastoral livelihoods, and advance the conservation and restoration of the fragile Himalayan rangelands.
YCFFN extends its sincere appreciation to the Governments of Nepal and Bhutan, as well as ICIMOD, for their continued leadership and commitment towards strengthening regional collaboration for the benefit of Himalayan yak herders and mountain communities.
Together, we are building a stronger future for Himalayan pastoralism.
🇳🇵🇧🇹 UNCCD COP17, मङ्गोलियामा हिमालय क्षेत्रका याक पालकहरूको भविष्यका लागि महत्वपूर्ण छलफल
संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय मरुभूमीकरण विरुद्धको महासन्धि (UNCCD) को COP17, उलानबातार, मङ्गोलियाको अवसरमा भूटान सरकारका माननीय कृषि तथा पशुपन्छी मन्त्री र नेपाल सरकार, कृषि तथा पशुपन्छी विकास मन्त्रालयका सचिव बीच एक महत्वपूर्ण द्विपक्षीय भेटघाट तथा छलफल सम्पन्न भयो। उक्त भेटघाटमा नेपाल याक चौंरी किसान महासंघ (YCFFN) का प्रतिनिधिहरूको पनि सहभागिता रहेको थियो।
छलफलका प्रमुख विषयहरू:
१. हिमाली चरन क्षेत्र (Rangelands) को संरक्षण, पुनर्स्थापना तथा दिगो व्यवस्थापन,
२. याक तथा चौंरी संरक्षण र प्रवर्द्धन,
३.हिमाली याक पालक समुदायको दिगो जीविकोपार्जन,
जलवायु परिवर्तनबाट प्रभावित उच्च हिमाली क्षेत्रका चुनौतीहरू, तथा भूटान, नेपाल र भारतका राष्ट्रिय याक महासंघहरूलाई समेट्ने हिमालयन याक हर्डर्स नेटवर्क (Himalayan Yak Herders' Network) को गठन र सञ्चालनलाई अघि बढाउने विषयमा केन्द्रित रहेको थियो।
छलफलका क्रममा नेपाल सरकार, कृषि तथा पशुपन्छी विकास मन्त्रालयका सचिवज्यूले नेपाल याक चौंरी किसान महासंघलाई हिमालयन याक हर्डर्स नेटवर्कमा आबद्ध हुन आवश्यक सहयोग तथा सहजीकरण गर्ने प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त गर्नुभयो।
प्रस्तावित हिमालयन याक हर्डर्स नेटवर्क ले भूटान, नेपाल र भारतका याक पालकहरूबीच क्षेत्रीय सहकार्य सुदृढ गर्दै ज्ञान तथा अनुभव आदान–प्रदान, याकको आनुवंशिक स्रोत संरक्षण, दिगो चरन क्षेत्र व्यवस्थापन, जलवायु उत्थानशीलता अभिवृद्धि तथा हिमाली पशुपालक समुदायको जीविकोपार्जन सुदृढीकरणमा महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेल्ने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।
यस महत्वपूर्ण पहललाई सफल बनाउन निरन्तर सहयोग र नेतृत्व प्रदान गर्नुहुने नेपाल सरकार, भूटान सरकार, तथा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय एकीकृत पर्वतीय विकास केन्द्र (ICIMOD) प्रति याक चौंरी कृषक महासंघ नेपाल हार्दिक आभार व्यक्त गर्दछ।
हिमालयका याक पालकहरूको साझा भविष्यका लागि क्षेत्रीय सहकार्य अझ सुदृढ बनाऔँ।
