Kathmandu, September 17, 2026: A China-Nepal Traditional Medicine and Cultural Exchange Program was held in Kathmandu under the theme “Connecting Ancient Wisdom with Modern Healthcare: TCM-Ayurveda Exchange and Collaboration.” Jointly organized by the Chinese Cultural Centre in Nepal and the Chinese Medicine Doctors’ Society of Nepal, with support from the Ayurveda Doctors Association of Nepal, Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University and the 17th Chinese Medical Team to Nepal, the program brought together experts from traditional medicine, healthcare and cultural fields.

In his welcome remarks, Deputy Director Liu Zhanping highlighted the importance of continued traditional medicine exchange. CMDS-Nepal President Dr. Suraj Karmacharya and Ayurveda Doctors Association President Dr. Shankar Gautam emphasized greater professional cooperation between TCM and Ayurveda.

Academic sessions featured Dr. Jhularam Adhikari, Dr. Nirmal Bhusal and Qiu Guangmin, who discussed TCM, Ayurveda, their contemporary development, cultural significance and China-Nepal cooperation.

An expert dialogue moderated by Dr.Robin Bhusal examined traditional medicine in modern healthcare, including education, regulation, research and institutional cooperation. Dr. Siddhartha Thakur also presented future cooperation ideas.

The program included Dr. Jia Songtao’s sharing on TCM and acupuncture in Nepal, Dr. Deng Haixia’s presentation on Huangdi Neijing, and a Tai Chi and Qigong demonstration by Liu Wei.

Concluding remarks by Dr. Harish Chandra Shah highlighted continued cooperation in traditional medicine, research and cultural exchange. The event concluded with networking and a group photograph.

The “Chinese Culture Lecture Series: The Path of China's Development” was successfully held on September 11 and 13 at Lumbini National Academy in Bhaktapur, jointly organized by the China Cultural Center in Nepal, Aniko Society, and Lumbini National Academy.

Dr. Sarbottam Shrestha, a renowned Nepali scholar of Chinese studies and Vice President of the Aniko Society, delivered the two-part lecture, with more than 200 guests, academics, teachers, students, and parents in attendance.

The sessions explored China’s reform and opening-up, its economic and social development, and its role in global governance. Dr. Shrestha shared key milestones in China’s development and introduced initiatives including the Belt and Road Initiative and the four Global Initiatives.

The lectures also provided an open platform for discussion on China’s development experience, Nepal-China cooperation, climate change, and disaster response.
This was the series’ first visit to a university campus, with more sessions planned for universities and communities.

From August 10 to 31, the Chinese Culture Lecture Series - “The Path of China’s Development” was held over four sessions at Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute in Kathmandu. The series was jointly organized by the China Cultural Center in Nepal, the Arniko Society, and Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute, with Dr. Sarbotam Shrestha, a renowned Nepali Sinologist and Vice President of the Arniko Society, as the keynote speaker. More than 300 students, scholars, and members of the academic community participated in the four lectures.

Over the course of nearly one month, Dr. Shrestha explored China’s development through four thematic sessions. The first lecture examined China’s challenging journey through modern history, from the impact of the O***m Wars to the awakening of national consciousness. The second focused on China’s reform and opening-up, exploring the policy choices and social transformation behind the country’s rapid economic development. The third addressed contemporary Chinese education, culture, and literature, highlighting the interaction between traditional values and modern thought. The fourth reviewed China’s development achievements and looked ahead to the country’s future development and its broader implications for the world.

The four lectures were closely connected, comprehensive, and progressively structured, providing students with a broader understanding of “The Path of China’s Development.” Dr. Shrestha’s engaging and accessible presentations, supported by extensive historical and academic references, generated lively discussions among the participants. During the interactive sessions, students raised questions on the challenges of social transformation, the relevance of China’s development experience, and the role and responsibilities of young people in promoting Nepal-China exchanges. The lectures concluded with a book and certificate presentation ceremony.

The Chinese Culture Lecture Series is a flagship cultural exchange program of the China Cultural Center in Nepal. Through diverse themes ranging from Chinese calligraphy and Dunhuang culture to the I Ching, Confucian thought, The Huangdi Neijing, and China’s development, the Center continues to provide audiences in Nepal with diverse perspectives for learning about Chinese civilization, culture, and contemporary China.

Looking ahead, the Center will continue to present lectures and cultural programs on traditional Chinese culture, including Tai Chi, martial arts, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chinese opera. The popular “The Path of China’s Development” lecture series will also continue its outreach to more schools and educational institutions across Nepal.

The “2026 Painted Panda World Tour” brought laughter, creativity and cultural exchange to the China Cultural Center in Nepal on August 21!

More than 200 guests, including representatives from the Chinese Embassy, media organizations, Nepali students and Chinese-language learners, joined this colorful celebration.

Inspired by Nepal’s vibrant Holi festival, participants transformed pandas into colorful works of art through painting, creative workshops, giant panda-themed puzzles, doodling, stamp-collecting and fun market games.

The event beautifully combined China’s beloved giant panda with Nepal’s colorful cultural traditions, celebrating biodiversity, friendship and harmony between the two countries.

The Painted Panda journey has only just begun! The next stop will bring Chinese culture to Nepali schools and share stories of love, friendship and peace with more young people.

📸 “China Through the Eyes of Nepali Photojournalists” has arrived at Kathmandu Durbar Square!

Held on World Photography Day, August 19, the outdoor exhibition features 50 captivating photographs by Nepali photographers, offering diverse perspectives on China’s landscapes, heritage, culture, traditions, and rapid development.

Organized by the China Cultural Center in Nepal and the National Forum of Photo Journalists–Nepal, the exhibition is also part of the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the China Cultural Center in Nepal.

Through the universal language of photography, these images build a bridge of understanding, friendship, and cultural exchange between Nepal and China.

On August 17, the second lecture of the “The Path of China’s Development” series was held at Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute in Kathmandu. Nearly 100 students, teachers and academic representatives attended and interacted with the speaker.

Dr. Sarbottam Shrestha introduced China’s reform and opening-up through the history of ration coupons during the planned economy. He explained how China transitioned toward a socialist market economy through economic development, domestic reform and opening-up, becoming the world’s second-largest economy. He highlighted CPC leadership, people’s unity and efforts, vocational education, skilled workers, favorable international conditions and comprehensive modernization as key factors.

Professor Uttam Krishna praised the lecture and thanked the China Cultural Center in Nepal for promoting campus-based cultural exchange.
