EDUCATION CHANGES LIVES
You can help. Sponsor a child’s education [email protected] The indigenous people of Nepal's Himalayas originated in Tibet centuries ago. They are an ethnic, linguistic and religious minority in a country blighted by caste discrimination. Himalayan folk are marginalized by their ethnicity and their language (dialects of Tibetan). They are further marginalized by c

aste discrimination although the Buddha taught that caste is meaningless. No government in Kathmandu has ever seen fit to address their needs - Himalayan folk live without running water, sanitation and electricity. There is not enough food (more than half the children are stunted) and the peole have no access to health care or education. Thrangu Rinpoche's aims are to help Himalayan people preserve their language, their culture and their Buddhist way of life. Both schools offer education, housing, medical and dental care to hundreds of Himalayan children. At the main school, Shree Mangal Dvip (SMD) Boarding School, the children are given a secular education enriched by instruction in the "lama language" (Tibetan) and Himalayan culture. Instruction is given in the teachings of the Buddha and the children take part in prayer and meditation every day. The schools are wholly supported by sponsors in 26 different countries.

THE SAATHI PROJECT: SMD + THE ICS Inter-Community School Zurich
Today ICS Senior school principal Gabriel Di Mauro and Jocelyn Kissenpfennig , Saathi Project Coordinator and Executive assistant were invited as Special guest speakers for our High school students at the Conference Hall.
One of our students Tsering Lhamo D25.11 welcomed each of them with a traditional ceremonial scarf (khata) and we heard about the long relationship between both schools which grew into the SAATHI Project.
The event was highly interactive, featuring a Q&A session where both the students and the guest speakers asked each other questions.
Niruta Magar B13.51 “It was awesome in one word and we got an opportunity to ask questions not only related to education but also in general (life, motivation and AI ) I'm glad that I answered a question asked by Joycelyn which was how to make momos.

KIDS HELPING KIDS
On June 8, we welcomed teachers Vicky and Geetika and students from UWC South East Asia Dover Campus Singapore. They have been helping us for more than 2 decades now. They sponsored 5 boarders for many years and last year, they sponsored 6! They worked hard and this year, they were able to sponsor 7 boarders. We are very glad to have them back at our school!

Photos from our Grade 11 Orientation Program held on June 8.

We were delighted to welcome our new batch of Grade 11 students to the SMD family. During the orientation, we shared the story and background of our school, as well as the vision and aspirations of our founder, Kyabje Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche.

Classes will begin on June 10. We are also pleased to share that, as in previous years, we have provided full scholarships to over 25 students to complete their Grade 11 and Grade 12 (+2) education .

As our students begin this new chapter, we encourage them to learn with curiosity, grow with confidence, and make the most of every opportunity ahead. We warmly welcome all our new students and wish them a successful and meaningful journey ahead.

Today, our children enjoyed a delicious ice cream treat, kindly sponsored by Ms. Heidi Chu through our Shedra teacher, Lophon Dechen Phuntsok.

Having ice cream on a hot summer day brought great joy and excitement to our children, making the day extra special. We would like to sincerely thank Ms. Heidi Chu for her kind gesture and continued support for SMD.
