On July 31st, The Partners Nepal officially handed over the newly published Langtang's Living Landscapes handbook to Mr. Kaisang Nurpu Tamang, Mayor of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, and Mr. Shyam Kumar Shah, Senior Conservation Officer of Langtang National Park. This brief yet comprehensive text connects the park's historical evolution and local climate patterns to its complex tapestry of flora, fauna, and cultural traditions, particularly the spiritual heritage of its hallowed lakes. It also addresses today's most important issues—expanding tourism, unrestrained cattle grazing, and the effects of climate change—through realistic, community-based solutions. Langtang's Living Landscapes, an invaluable resource, will aid policymakers, environmentalists, and local stewards in protecting Langtang's natural environment and cultural heritage for future generations.

The Partners Nepal is pleased to offer our fourth edition of climate change and global warming challenges from the Himalayan region. This handbook is an educational resource for high school students studying the effects of climate change on mountain ecosystems and local communities, specifically in Rasuwa. It is illustrated to increase engagement and emphasize the importance of local adaptation measures in addressing climate change challenges.

This handbook on "Melting Heights: Climate Change and Global Warming's Impact on Nepal's Himalayas - A Case Study from Langtang National Park and Buffer Zone" is dedicated to the resilient people of Langtang, who faced substantial devastation during the 2015 earthquake, which claimed many lives and destroyed agricultural land, livestock, and vital infrastructure.

The village of Langtang suffered heavily, with 310 individuals perishing, including 176 residents, 80 foreigners, and 10 military personnel. Over one hundred corpses remain undiscovered. Numerous communities in the upper Langtang Valley were also severely affected, with the majority of structures demolished and nearly all shelters ruined.

This handbook pays tribute to those who perished by highlighting the impact of the One Day One Tree reforestation initiative launched in 2021, which aims to restore the ecosystems damaged by the earthquake and avalanche. It delves into the impacts of climate change on mountain ecosystems and local communities in Rasuwa, stressing the importance of local adaptation strategies to address these challenges. The books are available on request from TPN members when possible.

The Partners Nepal extends its heartfelt gratitude to Nepal Hilfe-Tirol for their invaluable support in publishing the handbook titled "Melting Heights: Climate Change and Global Warming's Impact on Nepal's Himalayas - A Case Study from Langtang National Park and Buffer Zone." This collaborative effort underscores our shared commitment to addressing the profound challenges posed by climate change in the Himalayan region.
