In Deepest Sympathy and Solidarity

The devastating flash floods that struck Rasuwa and the Bhotekoshi region of Nepal have brought unimaginable loss and suffering. Lives have been lost, families devastated, homes destroyed, and bridges, livelihoods, and entire communities severely affected.

Our hearts go out to all those who have lost loved ones, homes, and their means of livelihood in this tragic disaster. We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the bereaved families and to everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Rasuwa, Bhotekoshi, and all the affected communities. We also express our deepest respect and gratitude to the volunteers, rescuers, security personnel, local authorities, and all those working tirelessly to save lives and support the affected families during this difficult time.

May those who have lost their lives rest in peace, and may their families find strength and courage in the days ahead. We stand together with the people of Nepal in this time of profound sorrow and loss.

Melting Heights – Understanding Climate Change in Langtang

Melting Heights, published by The Partners Nepal, is an important publication documenting the impacts of climate change and global warming on the Himalayan environment and communities of Langtang National Park and its buffer zone.

The Himalayas are warming rapidly, and the effects are increasingly visible through changing glaciers, melting snow, changing water sources, extreme weather events, changing vegetation and wildlife patterns, and growing challenges for mountain communities.

Through Melting Heights, The Partners Nepal aims to raise awareness among local communities, students, visitors, trekkers, conservationists, and decision-makers about the fragile Himalayan environment and the urgent need for climate action.

The publication brings together knowledge and observations from the Langtang region and highlights the close relationship between people, nature, glaciers, forests, water, and biodiversity. It also emphasizes the importance of local participation in protecting the Himalayas for future generations.

As part of its environmental education and conservation work, The Partners Nepal is working to make Melting Heights available to schools, communities and visitors in Langtang National Park and its buffer zone.

Promoting Environmental Stewardship Through Eco-Friendly Cloth Bags

As part of its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable community development, The Partners Nepal (TPN) has been supporting the use of environmentally friendly cloth bags during major religious festivals celebrated at Khumjung Monastery. These reusable bags have become a practical and meaningful alternative to single-use plastic bags, helping to reduce waste generated during large religious gatherings.

The initiative has received strong support from local monasteries and communities. Today, monasteries in Namche, Khumjung, and Phortse continue to use these reusable cloth bags every year during important religious ceremonies and festivals. The widespread adoption of cloth bags has significantly reduced plastic pollution within monastery premises and surrounding villages, contributing to cleaner and healthier environments.

Beyond reducing waste, the initiative has raised environmental awareness among monks, local residents, and visitors. By integrating environmentally responsible practices into traditional religious celebrations, the monasteries are demonstrating that cultural and spiritual values can go hand in hand with nature conservation. The reusable bags have become a symbol of respect for both the sacred environment and the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.

One Day One Tree Initiative Encourages Tree Planting on Private Land in Khunde and Khumjung

The One Day One Tree initiative has successfully encouraged local residents in Khunde and Khumjung to plant native trees on their private land, making household tree planting an important component of environmental conservation in the Khumbu region. Community members have come to recognize that planting trees in home gardens, courtyards, and privately owned land is just as important as restoring forests in surrounding wild areas.

Local people have shared that this positive change in attitude began when The Partners Nepal (TPN) launched the One Day One Tree project within the Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone. Through awareness campaigns, community participation, and the distribution of native seedlings, the project inspired households to take personal responsibility for protecting their local environment. As a result, many families now regularly plant and care for trees on their own property, contributing to improved biodiversity, soil conservation, climate resilience, and the beautification of their villages.

This growing culture of private land tree planting demonstrates how community-based conservation initiatives can create lasting behavioral change, extending environmental stewardship beyond public forests and into everyday life.

The Partners Nepal (TPN) remains firmly committed to protecting and restoring the fragile ecosystems of Solukhumbu and Langtang National Parks. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Ngawang Sherpa (Gerja) and his family for their generous contribution of NPR 15,000 in support of our “One Day One Tree” initiative.

Since its inception in March 2016, The Partners Nepal (TPN) has received valuable support from friends and supporters at international, national, and local levels. With this continued generosity, TPN has achieved an impressive 95% success rate in restoring high-altitude degraded landscapes, despite the challenging mountain climate.

Through the ongoing support of our partners and donors, we are actively restoring and maintaining alpine ecosystems in deforested and degraded areas of Solukhumbu and Langtang. We warmly invite all environmentally conscious individuals to join hands with us in strengthening these conservation efforts. Protecting our natural ecosystems is a shared responsibility, and together we can create a lasting positive impact.

We sincerely thank everyone who has supported our mission and reaffirm our commitment to conserving and restoring the natural heritage of Solukhumbu and Langtang.
