Sanju Thapa Magar presented a paper on the Role of Civil Society Organizations for Older Persons at the International Conference on Senior Citizens, organized by the Manmohan Memorial Foundation. The conference was inaugurated by Hon'ble President, Ram Chandra Poudel on 9 May 2026 at The Malla Hotel in Kathmandu. Chiri Babu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Municipality, delivered remarks during the inauguration ceremony.

The conference was organized into four sessions under the following themes: (a) Senior Citizens: Conditions and Necessities
(b) Increasing Ageing and the Challenges for the Nation (c) Social Security and Dignity of Senior Citizens (d) Intergenerational Transfer of Knowledge and Skills

Distinguished experts from national, international, and government organizations presented papers on these themes. Each session was followed by either experience-sharing by senior experts or speeches by government representatives.

The conference concluded on 10 May 2026 with a vote of thanks and closing remarks delivered by Ishwar Pokhrel, Chairperson of the Manmohan Memorial Foundation. See less

Ageing Nepal conducted the JPP (JICA Partnership Project) wrap-up meeting at Namobuddha Municipality on 8 May 2026. The meeting was attended by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairpersons, the Head of the Health Department, the Employment Branch Officer, and representatives from JICA Nepal.

Sanju Thapa Magar presented the overall project outcomes and facilitated a session for Project Sustanability. The Municipality provided positive feedback and expressed interest in future collaboration.

Ageing Nepal inpartnership with Nayoro Social Welfare Foundation implemented the project titled “Establishment of an Older People Care System for the Coming Ageing Society in Nepal” to promote a community-based care system within the Municipality.

Myo Nyein Aung, M.D., MSc, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Juntendo University, and Yuka Koyanagi, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Tokyo Ariake University of Medical and Health Sciences visited Ageing Nepal on 6 May 2026 to better understand our work and explore potential opportunities for collaboration.

Ageing Nepal conducted a ward-level review meeting at Namobuddha Municipality for the JICA Partnership Project (JPP) on the “Establishment of an Older People Care System for the Coming Ageing Society in Nepal".

The monthly home visit programme was conducted for older people throughout the project period. Trained FCHVs were mobilised to monitor blood pressure, share health tips, and support older people in doing exercises.

Sanju Thapa Magar participated in a workshop on the Cultural Adaptation of Dementia Care Programme (START) for Family Caregivers of People Living with Dementia in Nepal on 11th April 2026. The workshop was organised by Nepal Public Health Foundation, Global Brain Health Institute and Alzheimer’s Association with the objective of reviewing the Nepali-translated START modules and identifying culturally appropriate adaptations using The Cultural Treatment Adaptation Framework (CTAF) and the Formative Method for Adapting Psychotherapy (FMAP). The programme is being lead by Prekshya Thapa.

A group of diverse technical experts from government and non-government organisations participated in the workshop and provided inputs on the translated modules. The workshop began with the overview of Dementia Caregivering in Nepal presented by Dr. Nidesh Sapkota, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Patan Academy of Health Sciences. The workshop concluded with valuable discussions and recommendations for refining the modules.

Two-day Advanced Training on Geriatric Care was successfully completed on 23rd March. Masako Akanuma, Founder of RHINOKINO, shared Japanese caregiving skills through lectures, practical, and demonstration sessions with ten caregivers and nurses from different care homes during the training. The Mayor and Chairpersons of different wards of Dhunibesi, Dhading District, participated as observers on the first day.

Yuka Timilsina from JICA Nepal, Satoshi Fuji from Nayoro Social Welfare Foundation, and the trainer handed over certificates to the participants during the certificate distribution ceremony.

The training was conducted by Ageing Nepal in collaboration with Nayoro Social Welfare Foundation as part of the JICA Partnership Project (JPP).
