Raksha Nepal

Raksha Nepal Nepali women suffer numerous inequalities, many of which lead to their sexual exploitation. As a result, trafficking of women and children is common.

Raksha Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2004 with the active participation of girls and women who have been sexually exploited. Nepali culture supports the man’s right to use and abuse women, and there are no laws to protect the victims of this abuse. Even women hired into what they believe are legitimate jobs are then forced into prostitution in order to maintai

n their meager incomes. At Raksha Nepal, we believe in creating opportunities. We are committed to making these women aware of how to protect themselves in their current roles, and providing them with education and skills training necessary to transition them to a decent living and secure their safe and respectable future.

🎤 New speaker announcement: Meeta Rai
🧕 Student & Youth Social Campaigner
📍 Kathmandu, Nepal

We are honored to welcome Meeta Rai to IDEC@EUDEC 2025!

As a daughter of Nepal devoted to caring for her nation, Meeta was raised with a strong foundation in education, empowerment, and purpose. Today, she is a passionate youth leader and a law student at Heartland Academy, a democratic school in Kathmandu.

Meeta’s activism focuses on gender equality, social justice, and the prevention of human trafficking. She has been actively involved in national and international campaigns such as Days for Girls International, Un Billón de Pie (One Billion Rising/V-Day), Women's Day, and The Power Project. She also participated in IDEC 2023 Nepal and IDEC 2024 Taiwan 臺灣 教育世界博覽會, experiences that continue to shape her vision for change.

🎙️ Talk: Reclaiming Dignity: Democratic Education as a Pillar Against Girls Trafficking in Nepal

In her talk, Meeta will shed light on the alarming reality of girls trafficking in Nepal, especially in rural and marginalized areas. She will explore how democratic education—with its focus on critical thinking, awareness of rights, and gender equity—can act as a powerful tool to prevent trafficking and restore dignity and agency to girls at risk. Through her lived experience and legal studies, Meeta offers a compelling perspective on education as both resistance and hope.
