Ibasho Nepal

Ibasho Nepal Creating socially integrated and sustainable communities that VALUE their elders.

With the simultaneous rise in the number of elders and in climate-related natural disasters, societies worldwide are facing two critical questions: How can we care for unprecedented numbers of elderly in our society? And how can we reduce the vulnerability of elderly populations affected by disasters and empower them to strengthen resilience? To create an effective response, we need both intellige

nt policy making and practical solutions emerging from citizen engagement. Ibasho promotes the value of socially integrating elders and demonstrate the multi-generational social, economic, and environmental benefits of such a community in traditional, developing and modern societies. Ibasho partners with local organizations and communities to design and create socially integrated and sustainable communities that value their elders. We create a place where elders find the opportunities to contribute to their community members of all ages.

Ibasho Nepal had the pleasure of hosting insightful discussions with Dr. Sarah Specks from the Institute for Ageing Research IAF, Switzerland, who connected with Ibasho community members in Matatirtha and the team for her research on “Creating Age – friendly communities for Older People: A case and Implementation study on Ibasho."

Our heartfelt thanks to the community members at Matatirtha, Ram Thapa Sir and his team at Matatirtha Oldage Home along with the team at Bihani Social Venture for taking out time to share about the work of Ibasho in Nepal. The interactions also brought back fond memories of those involved with Ibasho Japan and Ibasho Philippines who our community members met during their visit there or online. We would like to wish Dr. Specks all the best for her future endeavors and we are grateful that we could meet her.
