The Peace for People, hereinafter briefly referred to as PfP, is a non-governmental and non-profit professional organization, bearing the main objective of elevating poor people’s living conditions and thus bringing about peace and harmony in communities. This objective is realized through the formulation and ex*****on of programs aimed at raising awareness and support for skill development, quality education, improved health, sanitation, livelihoods, and overall sustained socioeconomic advancement at the grassroots level. PfP is formed and functioning by a group of people with deep sense of sympathy and support towards disadvantaged and deprived places and people in Nepal, aided by generous backing of both domestic and international individuals and institutions interested in contributing to the development of such lagging communities that require and deserve effective developmental interventions. The guiding principles of the organization chiefly constitute of accountability, commitment, equity, honesty, harmony, goodwill, compassion, coordination, cooperation, collaboration, environmentally-friendly development strategies, and sustainability, all aimed at attaining lasting prosperity and peace.
Established on Monday 16 November 2009, PfP has been registered at the District Administrative Office, Kathmandu, under the Organization Registration Act 1977 and affiliated to the Social Welfare Council, Nepal. The problems and potentials of Nepal as briefly reflected in the preamble above constitute the influencing factors for the concept of creating the PfP as a mechanism to harness cooperation among like-minded individuals and institutions at the local, national, and international levels so as to launch plausible programs. The goal of the latter is to enhance awareness, capabilities, cooperation, productivity, progress, prosperity and eventually peace and harmony among members of the (impoverished) target communities and beyond. The organization was formed at a time when the ten-year long armed conflict in the country had just ended and the relatively poorer and poorest sections of the society had been suffering most from the consequences and the aftermaths of the insurgency situation.
There was and still is an immense need for making suitable developmental interventions aimed at ameliorating the socioeconomic and psychological state of the conflict-affected people in rural and remote areas of the country. Harmony and cooperation among sections of the society that belong to diverse cultures, castes, religions and locations is vital to stimulate and strengthen creative community initiatives and actions for generating benefits to all. A realization of this has been instrumental behind the idea of forming and operating the PfP, as it is intended to promote sustainable peace in the Nepalese society. Sensibility and sensitivity of serving those who are in trouble and need external support constitute a specific and special humane instinct and virtue. Adopting these traits in practice in the real-life situations was the sole intent with which PfP came to existence, along with the sense of redefining peace.
Peace is beyond and more important than material wellbeing. However, the fulfillment of basic needs of life such as food, shelter, clothing, education, justice, and security constitute the fundamental prerequisite to peace. A peaceful environment prevailing among people could stimulate and further boost economic progress, prosperity, and sustainable development. With this core conviction, PfP embraces concomitant commitments to contributing to the government’s efforts towards national development.
