Community Outreach Program

A community outreach program on sexual and reproductive health rights was conducted on September 5, 2026 in Changunarayan-3, Bhaktapur, Bagmati Province. The purpose of the program was to educate community members about SRHR, violence related with reproductive health, along with the available legal support in case of violation of such rights. The program saw participation of community members and local clubs. Ms. Srijana Khadka facilitated the program and led the discussions on various components of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Discussion Program on Role of Stake-holders Addressing SGBV in Dhankuta
FWLD organized a discussion program in Dhankuta Municipality on September 4, 2026, to monitor the practices and progress in addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in the municipality. This program followed the District-Level Multi-Stakeholder Training on Addressing SGBV through a Victim-Centric Approach and SRHR held on 10 August 2025, and aimed to evaluate its impact and strengthened municipal responses.
Key justice and service delivery institutions participated, including:
• Deputy Mayor Ms. Bhima Devi Khanal
• Dhankuta District Court
• District Government Attorney’s Office
• District Police Office
• Legal Aid Committee, mediators, and local judicial committees
The interaction provided a platform for sharing the good practices being carried out in the municipality and highlighted the areas of improvement to respond to SGBV cases in a more survivor-centered, coordinated, and rights-based manner. The program was led by Advocate Binod Chandra Devkota and Ms. Kiran Kunwar, with support from Advocate Hima Basnet, who highlighted current practices and challenges in the municipality. This monitoring initiative reflects FWLD’s commitment to building stronger, more responsive systems to protect survivors and ensure justice.

Interaction Program on Legal Identity (Birth Registration and Citizenship)
Dhankuta Municipality, Dhankuta district (Bardra 18; September 3, 2026)

FWLD, in collaboration with Dhankuta Municipality, Dhankuta district organized an interaction program on legal identity focusing on birth registration and citizenship. The program brought together more than 50 representatives from all 10wards of the municipality including ward chairs, ward secretaries, ward members civil registration personnel and other municipal officers to strengthen understanding of legal identity and address challenges in its implementation.
The program was chaired by Deputy Mayor Ms. Bhima Devi Khanal, with Chief District Officer Ms. Rudra Devi Sharma, chief guest of the program, led an interactive session on the legal and administrative procedures for birth registration and citizenship, emphasizing their importance in ensuring access to fundamental rights and public services.
On behalf of FWLD, Advocate Binod Chandra Devkota delivered the welcome remarks, Advocate Sabin Shrestha presented on the legal framework governing birth registration and citizenship, highlighting the gaps between legal provisions and their implementation in practice, while the program was moderated by Advocate Hima Basnet.
The interaction provided a platform for ward representatives to raise practical challenges encountered in delivering legal identity services at the local level. CDO Ms. Sharma addressed case-specific concerns and clarified procedural issues, fostering stronger coordination among local stakeholders and contributing to improved access to legal identity services within the community.

Orientation Program for Nursing Staff Assisting with Second-Trimester Safe Abortion Services
On August 24 to 26, 2026, Family Welfare Division, Ipas Nepal and FWLD, organized an "Orientation Program for Nursing Staff Assisting with Second-Trimester Safe Abortion Services" in Kathmandu. The objective of the program was to build the capacity of nursing providers to support at or 13 weeks service providers during the entire pathways of service (before, during and after) and to articulate value clarification for supporting women and girls on abortion including with diverse disabilities through non-discriminatory, rights-based services.
This orientation program was organized for nursing staff who support second-trimester safe abortion services across 24 different hospitals that provide such services. Dr. Om Prasad Aryal, Director of the Family Welfare Division, presided over the orientation program, delivered remarks, and extended a vote of thanks. Papers were presented at the program by Senior Health Nursing In-charge Ms. Jayanti Chhatyal, Dr. Deep Shrestha Dangol, Ms. Sipra Joshi and Ms. Meena Poudel.
The program was effectively moderated by Advocate Nabin Kumar Shrestha, who facilitated the proceedings and discussions throughout the program and make a presentation on SMRHR Act, 2018.

31st Annual General Meeting | 21 August 2026

FWLD successfully convened its 31st Annual General Meeting on 21 August 2026 at Alpha House, Buddhanagar, Kathmandu, chaired by Senior Advocate Geeta Aryal, Chairperson of FWLD.

The meeting commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Advocate Rup Narayan Shrestha, Vice-Chair of FWLD. The AGM reviewed and approved FWLD's annual progress, audit, and financial reports, presented by Secretary Advocate Laxmi Pokharel and Treasurer Advocate Nabin Kumar Shrestha.

The AGM also marked the election of the Executive Board for the coming term, with the Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer continuing in their respective positions, while two new members joined the Board.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the two outgoing members for their dedicated service and valuable contributions, and warmly welcome the two incoming members as they take up this responsibility. We look forward to the Executive Board's continued leadership in advancing gender justice and the rights of women, children, and marginalized communities across Nepal.

Social Audit of Fiscal Year 2082/83

On August 21, 2026, the Social Audit of the FWLD for Fiscal Year 2082/83 was successfully concluded at Alfa House, Kathmandu. The event provided an opportunity to comprehensively review FWLD's organizational strengths, programmatic achievements, and key activities carried out throughout the fiscal year.The program was chaired by FWLD's Chairperson, Senior Advocate Ms. Gita Aryal. Mr. Hiralal Tandulkar, Ward Chairperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ward No. 11, attended as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Ms. Samiksha Niraula, Head of the Social Development Department, Kathmandu Metropolitan City; DSP Mr. Basanta Pathak from the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau, Nepal Police; and Inspector Ms. Nita Thapa from the Directorate of Women, Children and Senior Citizen Services.
The event witnessed the participation of representatives from various government institutions, national organizations and networks, partner organizations, media professionals, and beneficiaries. A key highlight of the program was the inspiring success stories shared by Ms. Anupam Aale Magar and Ms. Krishna Thapa. Independent Social Auditor Ms. Sanju K.C. presented the preliminary Social Audit Report, highlighting FWLD's key achievements, best practices, and organizational efforts during the fiscal year. Participants also provided valuable feedback and expressed their appreciation for FWLD's work and contributions. The program was facilitated by Mr. Santosh Chaudhary. The event concluded on a positive note with closing remarks from FWLD's Chairperson, Senior Advocate Ms. Gita Aryal, who expressed her sincere gratitude to all participants, guests, and stakeholders for their active participation, constructive feedback, and continued support.
