Established in 2002, it organizes national/provincial level campaigns and conferences focusing on issues relating to Peace, Human rights, Social Protection and Civic Space in coordination with members and like-minded organizations. COCAP has a large number of volunteers who actively involve themselves in the various aspects of its works.

Interaction with Stakeholders – Event 1: Bara District

The District Level Interaction with Stakeholders in Madhesh Province on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders and the Roles of Stakeholders was held at Durbar Hotel, Kalaiya, Bara District, on 11 April 2026. The program was organized by COCAP in collaboration with the Peer Learning Network of Madhesh Province.
As part of the 8-district interaction series under the Peer Learning Project, the program brought together diverse stakeholders to discuss pressing grassroots challenges and future priorities related to the protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs). It provided an important platform for reflection on the role of HRDs in advancing justice, equality, and human dignity within society.

The event was followed by a presentation on the current situation of women Human Rights Defenders (w/HRDs) and the challenges they face, which led to an engaging open discussion session. Representatives from government offices, the District Police Office, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), media, civil society organizations (CSOs), and members of the Peer Learning Network of w/HRDs discussed issues related to the protection of human rights. Participants emphasized the need for stronger coordination and collaboration to support defenders through both security measures and legal mechanisms.

Major concerns and discussion points raised during the interaction:
- Lack of formal recognition and identity of women Human Rights Defenders (w/HRDs)
- Increasing threats and risks faced by HRDs
- Gaps in government policies concerning the protection of HRDs
- Need for stronger coordination and collaboration among stakeholders
- Importance of both security measures and legal mechanisms to support HRDs
- Strengthening the capacity of Human Rights Defenders

The program concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening the capacity of Human Rights Defenders, enhancing protection systems, and fostering closer institutional collaboration to ensure their safety, empowerment, and sustained contribution to society.

🌾 Awareness Program on Promotion of Improved Paddy and other Crops 🌾

An awareness program on the promotion of improved paddy and other crops was successfully organized by COCAP Gandaki province secretariat on 24 April 2026 at Pokhara–28, Syankhudi. The program engaged a total of 31 participants, including 11 women and 20 men, representing local farmers and community stakeholders.

The session was chaired by Mr. Bir Bahadur Kisan, COCAP Gandaki province Provincial Chairperson, and graced by the presence of Mr. Shree Krishna Lamichhane, Ward Chairperson of Pokhara–28, as the Chief Guest. The technical session was led by Mr. Surya Adhikari, Agriculture Technician from Pokhara Metropolitan City, who provided expert insights into improved agricultural practices.

The program primarily aimed to enhance farmers’ technical knowledge and practical understanding of modern paddy cultivation. Key topics covered included the selection and use of high-yielding and climate-resilient seed varieties, appropriate and balanced fertilizer application, integrated pest and disease management practices and adaptive strategies to address the impacts of climate variability on agriculture. Emphasis was also placed on sustainable farming approaches to ensure long-term soil health and productivity.

The session was highly participatory, featuring interactive discussions, question-and-answer segments and experience-sharing among farmers. These engagements allowed participants to reflect on local challenges, exchange practical solutions, and better understand the applicability of improved techniques within their own farming contexts.

Overall, the program significantly contributed to increasing awareness and strengthening the technical capacity of participating farmers. It is expected to support the adoption of improved agricultural practices, leading to enhanced crop productivity, increased income opportunities, and the promotion of sustainable and resilient livelihoods within the community.

Boosting Local Livelihoods through Off-Season Vegetable Farming Training !

A two day training on Off-Season Vegetable Farming was successfully organized by COCAP Koshi Province Secretariat on 26–27 April 2026 (13–14 Baishakh 2083) at Gramthan Rural Municipality–1, Lakhantari, Morang with the objective of strengthening sustainable agriculture and promoting self-employment opportunities at the local level.

Led by Agriculture Officer Mr. Suren Kumar Majhi, the training combined practical demonstrations with essential theoretical knowledge. Participants were provided with a valuable skills on soil preparation, seed selection, pest and disease management, tunnel farming techniques, mulching practices and the production of organic fertilizers and bio-pesticides using locally available materials making farming more cost-effective and eco-friendly.

A total of 27 participants (20 female and 7 male), including returnee migrant workers, farmers, ward representatives and COCAP members, actively engaged in the program. The training was graced by Mr. Suresh Kumar Majhi, Ward Chairperson of Gramthan RM–1, as the Chief Guest.

To support immediate application of skills, participants were also provided with vegetable seeds (okra, cucumber, sponge gourd (ghiraula) and coriander) at the closing session.

The training not only enhanced practical agricultural knowledge but also empowered participants with new confidence to start off-season vegetable farming at household level. This initiative is expected to improve productivity, increase income opportunities, and strengthen long-term economic resilience in the community.

Awareness Program on Shock Responsive Social Protection
COCAP, Lumbini provincial office conducted an awareness program on Shock Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) on 24 April, 2026 (Friday) at Siyari - 6 with the participation of 45 representatives including ward members, youth, women groups, tole area leaders and health volunteers. The program was hosted by Ms. Roji Gyawali (Lumbini province program officer) and facilitated by Ms. Rima BC with ward representative Mr. Santa Bahadur Kunwar attending as chief guest.
The session focused on recent disaster situations in the local area, contribution-based and informal sector social protection, financial management and disaster management action planning.
Participants were oriented on different types of shocks including natural, economic, health and political shocks and discussed the importance of SRSP in reducing vulnerability, strengthening resilience, improving disaster response and supporting recovery. Key elements such as early warning systems, targeting vulnerable groups, digital payment mechanisms, social registries, coordination, and sustainable financing were also highlighted. The program was interactive, with active participation and questions from attendees regarding local government role and response in disaster risks reduction and social protection implementation, and concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening community resilience and preparedness.

Empowering Local Producers for a Sustainable Future - Labelling, Packaging and Market Management Training

Two-days training on Labelling , Packaging, and Market Management of Local Produced Goods was conducted on 23–24 March 2026 at Manahari RM, Laamitar, Makawanpur by COCAP, Bagmati Province Secretariat.

This initiative aimed to strengthen the capacity of local producers from wards 4, 5, and 6 including the Bankariya community to enhance their product quality, improve market access and increase income through better labeling, packaging, and marketing practices.

The training was graced by Mrs. Sita Pulami Magar, Vice Chairperson of Manahari RM, as Chief Guest, along with distinguished guests Mr. Gyanendra Dhakal and Ms. Samjhana Dangal, who highlighted the importance of promoting local enterprises and inclusive economic growth.

Expert-led sessions by Mr. Sujeet Kumar Shah (Food Technologist) and Mr. Naresh Acharya (Packaging and Market Expert) provided hands-on learning on labeling techniques, packaging methods, branding, pricing strategies, and market linkage. Participants explored practical approaches to present and promote locally made products such as soap, phenyl, liquid cleaners, and other goods produced using local resources.

What truly stood out was the enthusiasm and determination of participants especially women, Dalit, Janajati, and the indigenous Bankariya community. Their active participation reflected a strong commitment to transforming traditional skills into sustainable livelihood opportunities.

COCAP, national secretariat office ,Kathmandu organized the two-day Training program, “Strengthening Local Government for Sustainable Livelihoods, Financial Literacy and Promoting Social Security”, on 8 and 9 April 2026 in Kathmandu, brought together ward chairpersons, chairperson of the agriculture network, ward officials, officials working in social protection and livelihood departments from our project implementation areas along with COCAP board members, including the chairperson, General Secretary, treasurer, Bagmati Province chairperson and the project team.
The program provided a comprehensive and integrated understanding of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), sustainable livelihood promotion along with financial security, shock responsive social security systems and the role of local governments in supporting informal sector workers social protection in Nepal. The sessions highlighted Nepal’s vulnerability to multiple hazards and emphasized the importance of mainstreaming DRR into development planning, policies, budgeting and effective shock responsive social protection systems to build resilient communities. Participants gained practical knowledge on livelihood restoration through skill development, income diversification, financial management, and risk reduction strategies, particularly in post-disaster contexts. The program also deepened understanding of social security as both a protective safety net and a developmental tool that enhances resilience, reduces poverty and promotes human dignity.
Furthermore, it underscored the critical role of local governments in identifying and registering informal sector workers, expanding their access to social protection and developing inclusive, data-driven local action plans. Overall, the training reinforced the importance of coordinated efforts, capacity building, and community-based, risk-informed approaches to foster resilient, inclusive and sustainable development.
