International Domestic Workers' Day, observed annually on June 16

Say YES to and protect domestic workers 🧿 ILO Convention 189, also known as the Domestic Workers Convention, is a convention adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) that sets out standards and principles for the protection of domestic workers.

The framework also includes,
👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Right to equality of treatment with other workers and their families,
⛑️ Right to fair working conditions,
⚖️ Right to access justice and remedies for violations of their rights, and
🤝 International cooperation on migration issues.

The Meeting on "Possible Bilateral between SARTUC and ATUC on Social Protection and Migration" took place successfully during the ILC 2026 on 10 June 2026. The meeting successfully discussed an integrated approach, country-to-country collaboration, and possible trade union-to-trade union agreements for access to social protection for migrant workers in the destination countries.

This meeting has been facilitated by the STREAM Programme (ILO), with the participation of ACTRAV colleagues as well. Importantly, respected Brother Shoya Yoshida, General Secretary, ITUC-AP, presented and shared his remarks on the protection of the rights of migrant workers. Luca Pellerano, Senior Social Security Advisor and STREAM Programme manager, was a facilitator at the meeting from the STREAM side.

Key trade union leaders from South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) were present in the important meeting and raised their voice from the perspective of origin countries.
