Himalayan Institute of Development Scientific Research and Development Institute in Nepal

Himalayan Institute of Development (HID) has been contributing to Nepalese society by providing critical analysis of public policy issues. Focusing on policy research at the national level and development endeavors at the regional and community level, the institute has trained a large number of researchers in social science disciplines. Using its socio-economic laboratory to analyze and simulat

e the impact of new public policies on the labor market, trade, poverty, and gender, HID has developed a socio-economic database of Nepalese society, conducting social experiments using applied general equilibrium and microsimulation models. The institute has prepared regionally disaggregated social accounting matrices and integrated CGE microsimulation models to assess the effects of economic policy on individual households, including formulation of a macromodel of the Tenth Plan (2002-7) and Interim Three Year Plan (2007/8-9/10) of Nepal . The multidisciplinary research at HID aims at disentangling the complex social and economic issues facing society today using robust analytical techniques, both qualitative and quantitative. HID also undertakes collaborative research with multilateral and bilateral organizations, academic and research institutions, including domestic and overseas universities. HID provides research advice to students, both at home and abroad, who are pursuing doctoral dissertations on social accounting matrices, applied general equilibrium analysis, econometric modeling, and poverty and gender issues.

How can revolutionise ?

Nepal achieved a remarkable 4.33% increase in paddy production, reaching 5.72 million metric tons this year, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Department (MoALD).

The press note shared by MoALD attributes this success to several factors:
🌾the use of developed seeds
🌾the reduction in the impact of disease and pest infestation
🌾the improvement in the availability of fertilisers and
🌾seasonal adaptation.

The press note highlights the collaboration with ICIMOD. It emphasises the significant role of satellite technology, particularly -based crop area mapping in the belt, played a pivotal role in enhancing agricultural insights.
