BCN is the authoritative body on bird status and conservation in Nepal. We provide the most up-to-date information on birds and their habitats all over Nepal. We are also committed to conservation education, educating the public on the value of birds, the relationship between birds and people and the importance of community involvement and stewardship. Education and Awareness

Knowledge of birds and natural systems and their relationship to people is crucial to the protection of Nepal's natural resources. Knowledge encourages involvement and stewardship which result in the protection of birds and their habitats. BCN is committed to teaching people of all ages and group from all parts of Nepal about birds. We do this through a series of programmes, field trips and publications. Research

Conservation programmes require an intimate knowledge of species and habitats in order to protect and enhance them. BCN conducts surveys and researches as well as coordinating with other groups doing research. Conservation

Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) has received the BirdLife International Conservation Achievement Award 2026 for its long-standing leadership and contribution to vulture conservation in Nepal.
BirdLife International is a global partnership of 125 conservation organisations working across 120 countries to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity.
The award recognises BCNโ€™s work in scientific research, policy advocacy, community action and the campaign to eliminate the vulture-toxic veterinary drugs, contributing to the remarkable recovery of Nepalโ€™s vultures.
Presented by Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, Honorary President of BirdLife International, at the BirdLife Global Partnership Meeting and Global Flyways Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
This achievement belongs to everyone who has contributed to Nepalโ€™s vulture conservation journey - Government of Nepal, Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Department of Forests and Soil Conservation, Department of Drug Administration, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Saving Asiaโ€™s Vultures from Extinction, partners, researchers, veterinary professionals, local communities, conservation organisations and supporters.

The workshops brought together 36 participants in Kanchanpur and 29 participants in Kawasoti, representing government agencies, national parks, buffer-zone community forest user groups, local governments, conservation organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.

Using the ๐‘ป๐‘ฌ๐‘บ๐‘บ๐‘จ ๐‘ป๐’๐’๐’๐’Œ๐’Š๐’•, participants explored current and alternative states of the park and buffer zones, ecosystem services, and drivers of change through interactive group activities, discussions, and presentations. The sessions encouraged participants to share their local knowledge and perspectives, strengthening understanding of ecosystem services and fostering collaboration for sustainable management and conservation of these important Central Asian Flyway sites.
Mr. Ananda Kumar Shrestha, Research Officer, and Mr. Sanjay Chaudhary from Bird Conservation Nepal led the presentations, interactive activities, group discussions, and hands-on sessions during both workshops, with support and facilitation from field staff.
Together, these activities strengthened local capacity, stakeholder engagement, and understanding of ecosystem services, supporting evidence-based conservation and sustainable management of Nepalโ€™s priority sites along the Central Asian Flyway.

The five-day exhibition was wrapped up by the Chairman of the Ceremony, Mr. Vimal Kumar Thapa, President of Bird Conservation Nepal.

Dr. Ganesh Gurung, Executive Chairman of Policy Research Institute Nepal and Advisor of BCN was the Chief Guest of the closing and award distribution ceremony who highlighted the importance of photography and the photos along with the importance of birds and biodiversity at the Ceremony.

Mr. Steve from Tiger Tops Nepal congratulated BCN for their tremendous work done for the conservation of birds through the bird photo exhibition.

Key highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the Viewerโ€™s Choice Award. Mr. Sudeep KCโ€™s Common Kingfisher photo won the title of Viewerโ€™s Choice Award which was announced by the Chief Guest.

Ms. Ishana Thapa, Chief Executive Officer of BCN also extended her heartfelt gratitude to all the participants and the sponsors as well as the supporters who made this event a grand success.

All the winners were awarded with an appreciation certificates and the cash prize as well as a package voucher for Viewerโ€™s Choice Award winner from Tiger Tops Nepal.

The participants of the National Bird Photo Contest 2026 were also awarded with an appreciation certificates during the ceremony.

Dear Bird Lovers, Thank you for your enthusiastic participation in the National Bird Photo Contest and Exhibition 2026 at Nepal Art Council. We highly appreciate your support and participation on the first day, 13 August,2026.

We strive to keep our contests fair, transparent, and fun for everyone. After a thorough review, we discovered that one of the announced winners(1st Prize Winner) did not follow the official contest rules where we had a clause that photos previously entered in other contests will not be accepted.
As a result, that participant has been disqualified. โŒ

We sincerely apologize for this oversight and any confusion it may cause.
