It is such an honour to be a part of the Manifesto for Restorative Justice and Human Rights, developed under the vision and leadership of the European Forum for Restorative Justice.

The Manifesto — developed in consultation with over 30 restorative justice organisations as well as individual supporters from around the world — calls for recognising restorative justice as a means to uphold human rights, and for the recognition of access to restorative justice as an inherent component of existing justice-related human rights.
❗Today, access to restorative justice is unequal. Too many people are still excluded.
🤝 With your support, this Manifesto can become a powerful step towards ensuring universal, voluntary access to restorative justice as an inherent human right.

The Manifesto builds on the Cartagena Declaration (on restorative justice], issued by the IV. Latin American Congress on Restorative Justice in 2022, which outlines restorative justice access as a human right, and an international discourse that started at the EFRJ’s 12th International Conference in Tallinn.

🔔 We urge governments, human rights institutions, civil society, restorative practitioners, and academia to:
» Endorse the Manifesto
» Embed restorative justice into human rights strategies and justice systems
» Invest in accessible, high-quality restorative services
» Generate more research and evidence
» Strengthen connections between restorative justice and human rights communities
➡️ What can you do to support this cause?
✍️ Read the full Manifesto, download it, and sign it on the linked website!
📣 Share it with others, explain its significance, and encourage them to sign it too!
🗓️ Stay tuned for updated version coming on the 10th December, the UN Human Rights Day!

Towards violence-free schools
………………

In a period of a month, Inclusive Education Nepal and Nepal Forum for Restorative Justice conducted workshops on inclusive safeguarding and child protection across 10 schools with enthusiastic participants of more than 200 teachers.

From building awareness to strengthening practices, we’re working hand-in-hand with educators to ensure every child learns in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
This is just the beginning. Together, we’re making schools safer.

Together with Inclusive Education Nepal to promote inclusive, safe and just learning environments.

What does a truly restorative school look like?

Our 2025 report finds that while restorative practices are gaining ground in schools, too often they’re inconsistently applied or under-resourced. Stronger leadership, clear policy integration, and whole-school training are essential for impact.

👩‍🏫 For those working in or with education, our detailed Education Sector Report is a must-read.

Together with Bikalpa, we organized a two-day workshop on ‘𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻’’ on 24-25 April in Kathmandu.

As many participants expressed, the workshop helped them see what actually works to make our classrooms full of care (replacing fear) and nourishment (replacing punishment).

It is our sad duty to inform you of the passing of our dear friend and restorative justice pioneer Dr. Martin Wright. Martin died this weekend in London at the age of 94.

Martin was a groundbreaking explorer and developer of restorative justice since the 1980s. He was active in the field of both theory and practice. Many of us have felt strongly inspired by his books, articles and other writings. He was particularly influential in training and policy efforts, not only in the UK but all over Europe and beyond. He was a consistent and critical thinker, while also being engaged in practice as volunteer mediator.

Martin actively contributed to the preparation and foundation of the European Forum for Restorative Justice in 2000. He served as a Board member from 2000 to 2006. He was active in several working groups of the European Forum and was a welcomed guest at the many conferences, seminars and trainings until a few years ago.
He was one of the leading persons of the European COST Action on Restorative Justice Developments in Europe (2002-2006) and participated in numerous European projects, very often at the intersection between theory, research, practice and policy making. In 2012, he received the bi-annual European Restorative Justice Award.

Many will remember Martin as well from his numerous lectures, which he always opened in a most heart-warming way in the local language, whether it was German, French, Polish, Finnish, Russian or Croatian. And many enjoyed his special British humor. He became a personal friend for many of us.

During his whole life Martin has fought for an ideal: a better system of justice, more human and meaningful for victims, offenders and communities. In his opinion, a fundamental re-thinking of punishment and criminal justice was needed, where also justice processes in a broader societal context had to be addressed. Martin was a splendid example for many in the restorative justice movement. Today we feel sadness but also a deep feeling of gratefulness.
