5th day - Post-op

Today will just be post-op for the group of patients who had their surgeries yesterday.

Our volunteers were all raring to go to complete post-op as much as we can before we leave the eyecamp at 10am.

Very heartwarming to see one of the patient who created chaos yesterday. Today, she can smile after unpatching. ☺️ she has been blinded for 5 years and once her patch came off, she was able to see us all! So touched and it's moment like this that reminded us why we are doing this (very tiring!) and will continue to do so..

Everyone hesitated to leave and this happen at the end of every eyecamp. Friendship was formed and it was hard to say goodbye.

Ending 2025 high with a successful conclusion of the eyecamp! 👏 thank you all OPRJ volunteers, everyone at Nijgadh Eye Hospital, everyone at Tilganga. See you in 2026! 😎

4th day of Op

Today is the last day of operations. Expecting lesser number of patients but we wouldn't know until the last leaves the operation table.

Yet another cold morning for patients at post-op. We aimed to finish cleaning their eyes asap and to apply anti-inflammation eyedrops for them and finishing off with VAT.

Some drama at OT side as 2 patients needing to operate on both eyes created some chaos but lucky to have experienced volunteers helping out in managing them.

At eyecamp, everyday is happening. 😅

Operation concluded earlier today at 4pm+ and the final number is... 1,291!

This is the highest number the hospital has done in 2025. 👏👏 we're blessed to have a super strong doctors team this time.

We put out an appeal for more donations to fund the additional 291 surgeries. Do continue to support us in this if you can. 🙏

3rd day of Op

Another day starting at post-op.

Another chilly morning. It has been unusual weather here in the terai as temperature is really low and we hardly see the sun. Really feel for the patients here as they are not used to such cold weather. 🥺🥺

The eyecamp is running like an well-oiled machine now as we have setup the proper processes. It is quite sad that this will come to an end soon but really happy that many many patients will return home with good eyesight now. Many 6/6 and 6/9 vision!

The doctors worked really hard today and by the time we are done by 6pm, 357 surgeries done today! Including the 75 surgeries done before we arrived, the number now stands at 1,052!

This has surpassed the 1,000 surgeries we fundraised for. We're now expecting close to 1,300 surgeries by the time we conclude the surgery. This means, we need another 20-30k! We need more money urgently to fund these additional surgeries, any amount is welcomed. 🙏

2nd day of Op

A chilly start to the day as we're back in Nijgadh Tilganga Community Eye Hospital for the 2nd day.

The day started early with post-op for the group of patients who had their operation yesterday. Post-op is always exciting when we know how patients are doing after their op.

Elsewhere in the ground, the same activities were business as usual as new group of patients started their operations and more arrived from nearby villages.

Everything was fast and furious and at anytime there were hundreds of patients + their caregivers on the ground - imagine the chaos - but we're all well-experienced to handle the situations. 😉

Day 2 done and dusted by around 6.30pm and 315 surgeries were done today. 🫶

Let's go again tomorrow!

1st day of Op

We're back in Nepal again for Seeing Hope by Operation Rejoice (SHOP) 2025 eyecamp, this time happening in Nijgadh, Bara district. This time we aim to give sight to at least 1,000 patients.

This year, we have seasoned and new volunteers. As usual, bracing ourselves for the chaos ahead and indeed. 😄

Took some time to familiarise and organise ourselves and establish some crowd control in the beginning.

Patients coming in fast and furious. At the end of the day, 305 surgeries were done. 👏😍

Everyone was tired but happy. Tomorrow continues, with post-op unpatching in the morning. 💪💪
