Reflecting on the AgriPath Symposium 2026: Scaling Digital Agriculture Through Partnerships and AI ๐ŸŒพ

Over two days in Nairobi, Kenya, the AgriPath Symposium 2026 brought together policymakers, researchers, development practitioners, and AgTech innovators to explore a critical question: how can digital agriculture become truly inclusive, scalable, and sustainable?

One message stood out throughout the discussions: technology alone is not enough. While digital tools continue to transform agriculture, their success depends on trust, human connections, and strong support systems. Farmers are more likely to adopt and benefit from innovation when digital solutions are backed by extension services, local facilitators, and community engagement.

Participants also challenged the idea that scale is simply a matter of funding. Sustainable growth requires market-ready solutions, clear pathways to adoption, and strong collaboration between governments, private sector actors, and communities. The conversation repeatedly returned to the importance of Public-Private-Community Partnerships (PPCP) in creating lasting impact.

As AI opens new possibilities for expanding access to information, important questions remain around trust, inclusion, and relevance. The future of digital agriculture is not about choosing between technology and peopleโ€”it is about combining the strengths of both.

The symposium reinforced an important reality: scaling digital agriculture is not just about reaching more farmers. It is about building trusted, inclusive systems that deliver lasting value. Moving forward, stronger partnerships, farmer-centered design, and sustainable business models will be key to turning innovation into impact.

We were honored to participate in the AIN Development Dialogue 2026 on June 4th where iDE Nepal showcased its innovative approaches and ongoing efforts to improve nutrition, livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and create sustainable opportunities for communities across Nepal.

Our exhibition stall featured iDE Nepalโ€™s signature innovation, Tricho-Vermicompost, alongside information on our diverse projects spanning agriculture, nutrition, climate resilience, market systems development, and inclusive economic growth. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about our work, engage in meaningful conversations with our team, and explore how locally driven solutions are helping communities build more resilient futures.

Throughout the event, we were delighted to interact with participants, development practitioners, partners, students, and guests who visited our stall. These exchanges provided a valuable platform to share experiences, discuss challenges and opportunities, and highlight the importance of innovation and collaboration in achieving lasting development impact.

At iDE Nepal, we believe that sustainable change happens when communities have access to the knowledge, technologies, and market opportunities they need to thrive. What started with a few farmers bringing vegetables to a local collection point has grown into one of iDE Nepalโ€™s signature Collection Center initiatives in Guras Municipality, Dailekh. ๐ŸŒฑ

By organizing collection, pricing, record-keeping, and transportation systems, the initiative is helping strengthen market access for smallholder farmers while improving the availability of fresh and nutritious foods within the community.

Today, farmers are able to sell produce through a more transparent and reliable system โ€” reducing post-harvest losses, improving income opportunities, and building stronger local market linkages.

How can we create more inclusive financial systems that support women entrepreneurs to thrive?

On May 29th, 2026, iDE Nepal brought together researchers, development practitioners, financial institutions, women entrepreneurs, and partners for a research findings dissemination workshop on Women's Economic Empowerment: Aspirations and Financial Access Among Women Entrepreneurs in Nepal based on Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) tool, alongside findings from our Resilient Market Ecosystem (RME) Approach for assessing and evaluating the sustainability of our past interventions.

The workshop highlighted the aspirations, challenges, and lived experiences of women entrepreneurs across Nepal, while sharing evidence on how gender-sensitive market systems interventions can strengthen livelihoods, resilience, market access, and economic opportunities.

Through presentations, dialogue, and collaborative discussions, participants explored pathways to foster more inclusive financial services and equitable agricultural lending practices that better respond to the needs of women and marginalized communities.

Together, we continue working toward resilient markets, stronger livelihoods, and greater economic opportunities for all.

As part of an initiative to improve dietary quality and promote nutritious, child-friendly foods, an Apple Haluwa tasting session was conducted at Siddheshwori Secondary School in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality, in partnership with Mandala Foods ๐ŸŽโœจ

Students from ECD to Grade 10, along with parents, teachers, School Management Committee members, local government representatives, and POSHAN program staff, participated in the session. A traditional haluwa enriched with apple puree was introduced as a healthy and appealing meal option for school children.

Beyond encouraging healthier eating habits, the initiative also aims to strengthen local agricultural value chains and rural economies by linking produce from Community Learning Centers and commercial farmers. Participants actively shared feedback on taste, texture, and overall acceptability, helping identify nutritious, locally sourced foods that children enjoy.

When fresh produce cannot reach the market, knowledge can help prevent it from going to waste.

Through the project, a Value Addition Training organized in coordination with iDE Nepal, Sundar Nepal, and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, Surkhet, farmers and mothers learned practical ways to preserve surplus vegetables and prepare value-added products such as pickles, dried items, and chicken achar with a longer shelf life.

The training aimed to promote sustainable food preservation methods during times of overproduction or low market demand, helping reduce food loss while creating opportunities for additional household income.

Participants also gained hands-on knowledge on hygiene, cleanliness, and safe food preparation practices to ensure the quality and safety of the products being made. By turning seasonal abundance into economic opportunity, the training is helping communities build resilience, improve livelihoods, and make better use of locally available resources.

On May 5th, we successfully completed the soil testing kit demonstration and handover to cooperatives from Kaski and Syangja at the Provincial Lab, Gandaki Province, and Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality, Kaski, with strong technical support from the provincial lab team.

This initiative strengthens local capacity in soil health management by enabling cooperatives to conduct basic soil testing themselves. As a result, farmers are no longer dependent on external testing services and can better understand their soil needsโ€”leading to more efficient input use, reduced production costs, and long-term soil health improvement at the community level.

We are pleased to continue our collaboration with CABI, working together in areas of shared strategic importance. This partnership focuses on supporting smallholder farmers to produce more and safer food through sustainable crop production practices. Key areas of collaboration include reducing pesticide risks by increasing awareness, improving access to, and promoting the use of affordable integrated pest management (IPM) solutions. In addition, we aim to strengthen farmer advisory services through responsive digital tools that enhance knowledge dissemination and drive the adoption of IPM practices.

Could you believe earthworms can turn waste into opportunity? ๐ŸŒฑ It might sound surprising, but nature often has the simplest solutions.

Tricho-vermicompost has been one of iDE Nepalโ€™s signature innovations โ€” helping farmers improve soil health, boost productivity, and build more sustainable livelihoods. What started as a small pilot in Surkhet has now grown into a scalable enterprise model, reaching Kaski and Syangja.

With support from the Bayer Foundation, the PRERNA Project has been working alongside farming communities to promote sustainable agriculture. And fittingly, PRERNA means inspiration in Nepali โ€” because thatโ€™s exactly what it represents: inspiration growing from the ground up.

At the heart of it, farmers are not just using technology โ€” they are building it, learning from it, and turning it into opportunity.

What was once just an idea is now a trusted product shaped and owned by communities. From earthworms to enterprise, PRERNA is a reminder that small ideas can spark real change. ๐Ÿ’š
