What happens after harvest doesn’t just affect income; it affects nutrition. We often focus on production, but a big part of the nutrition story is decided after crops leave the field. When food is lost, nutrients are lost. When quality drops, so does what actually reaches the plate.

As a part of our Nurture Every Future – Poshan project, we brought together our field teams and partners, including Muktinath Krishi Company Limited, for a hands-on training on post-harvest handling and management.

Led by Dr. Mukunda Bhattarai and Lalit Sah, CRAG Lead at iDE Nepal, the sessions focused on practical skills like sorting, grading, safe storage, and pest management—small shifts that can make a big difference.

Because better post-harvest practices don’t just reduce losses; they help ensure families have more, and better-quality, food to consume. And when farmers earn more from what they grow, it also strengthens their ability to access diverse and nutritious diets.

The participants also built hands-on skills in grading, sorting, safe storage, and insect pest and disease management—practical tools that strengthen both the agricultural value chain and the nutrition outcomes that sit at the heart of the Poshan project.

Meet Dharmadarshani Tharu, a Community Business Facilitator from Nepalgunj.

With colorful Nutri Beads, she teaches mothers about child nutrition, women’s health, and balanced diets. 🟢🟡🔴

Her sessions have inspired families to eat healthier, monitor child growth, and adopt better feeding practices—while she strengthens her own livelihood by selling nearly 100 bead sets.

Through something as simple as a strand of beads, Dharmadarshani is building healthier children, stronger families, and brighter futures.

Meet Saidha Bhat from Baijanath, Banke.

Not long ago, the thought of managing hundreds of chickens felt overwhelming. Today, she confidently runs a growing poultry farm that helps support her family. 🐔

“At first, I was unsure if I could manage hundreds of chickens. Now I know this farm can support my family’s future,” she says.

Through iDE’s market systems work, women like Saidha are connecting to opportunities, building livelihoods, and strengthening their families’ nutrition and well-being.

📘 Sharing Lessons from the Multiple-Use Water Services (MUS) Nepal Network

For over 20 years, iDE Nepal has been pioneering 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐌𝐔𝐒) 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥, starting with gravity-fed community water systems and advancing to solar-powered water-lifting solutions. These integrated systems go beyond providing drinking water—they support irrigation, livestock, pico/micro-hydropower, and income-generating opportunities, improving livelihoods and strengthening food and nutrition security.

The new publication “𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐌𝐔𝐒) 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤” compiles practical field experiences and scaling strategies from iDE Nepal and nine other leading MUS organizations, shared through a webinar hosted by Rural Water Supply Network.

MUS is not just water supply—it is a catalyst for rural transformation. By integrating domestic and productive uses, MUS multiplies impact, builds climate resilience, and empowers communities to manage resources sustainably.

Bringing together over 200 national and international participants in Kathmandu on 5–6 February 2026, the 2026 on Agricultural Engineering and Climate-Smart Agriculture—co-organized by iDE Nepal and Nepalese Society of Agricultural Engineers (NSAE)—sparked critical dialogue and collaboration to accelerate climate-smart, technology-driven agricultural transformation. The event reinforced the urgent need to translate science and innovation into practical solutions for farmers facing climate challenges.

iDE Nepal contributed through a dedicated session on Digital Advisory Services (DAS), sharing evidence from the AgriPath Project. The session highlighted the Agripath DAS Toolkit, scaling pathways, field experiences from Nepal, and applied research from Kathmandu University—demonstrating how digital solutions can strengthen farmer decision-making and climate resilience.

The conference featured more than 35 paper presentations from several countries, including India, Bangladesh, the USA, and Kenya, showcasing applied research and field practices in mechanization, water and soil engineering, climate-smart agriculture, digital innovation, renewable energy, and agri-entrepreneurship. By aligning technical solutions with field realities and strengthening cross-sector partnerships, the conference helped accelerate pathways for scaling solutions that improve farmer resilience, productivity, and sustainable food systems in Nepal.

Digital innovation in the agri-food system doesn’t fail because of technology. It fails when it doesn’t scale.

That was the central message from a high-level panel convened by iDE Nepal on January 12, 2026, focused on What it truly takes to move digital solutions in Nepal’s agri-food systems beyond pilots and into widespread, farmer-level impact.

Moderated by Ms. Sabnam Shivakoti, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the discussion brought together perspectives from policy, research, the private sector, youth-led innovation, and diaspora networks, with insights from:

What it will take to scale impact
• Farmer-centered design as a non-negotiable
• Fewer pilots, stronger coordination
• Digital literacy as a foundation, not an add-on
• Clear and complementary roles for government and the private sector
• Youth, data, and innovation driving long-term solutions
• Partnerships, including diaspora engagement, to move ideas into action

The path forward is no longer about experimentation. It is about ex*****on, alignment, and scale.

As emphasized, digital innovation is no longer optional—it is essential for strengthening value chains, addressing climate challenges, and connecting farmers more efficiently to markets.

We were also honored to receive special remarks from 𝐌𝐫. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠 𝐊𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐦, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Nepal, who highlighted the importance of partnerships and innovation in ensuring digital solutions translate into real, measurable benefits for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

A thought-provoking panel discussion brought together leaders from policy, private sector, research, innovation, and investment to explore how digital solutions can move beyond pilots and scale.

iDE Nepal Country Office and the School of Science, Kathmandu University (SoS, KU) have come together to formalize a new chapter of collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Bed Mani Dahal, Dean of the School of Science, and Ms. Prajuna KC, Country Director of iDE Nepal—setting the stage for joint academic research, meaningful student internship opportunities, and the promotion of innovative agricultural technologies for enterprise development.

The signing was attended by Dr. Kumar Lama (Acting Head of Department) and Mr. Roshan Subedi (Lecturer) from KU’s Department of Agriculture, alongside Dr. Menila Kharel, PhD (Program Director) and Mr. Bhagwan Shrestha (Director of Finance and Operations) from iDE Nepal. The Department of Agriculture will lead and facilitate the effective implementation of this agreement.
