Unlearning isn’t easy, but it’s where change begins.
Through Gender Transformative Social Norms (GTSN) sessions, participants started questioning what once felt “normal,” uncovering hidden inequalities, and transforming not just their beliefs, but their actions. Today, they are not just aware, they are changemakers.
Check out the story of one of our changemakers: Smriti Tole Bikas Samiti.

In Madhesh Province, Nepal, 2025 was a year of extremes—from scorching heat and drought to devastating floods. But this time, the story ended differently.

🌡️ Heat: 17,000+ people protected through early warnings.
💧 Drought: 7 ponds restored & equal pay for women workers.
🌊 Floods: 3,000 people safely evacuated thanks to local leaders.

Thanks to the RAIN project funded by UK in Nepal and Anticipatory Action, and supported by People in Need Nepal communities are ready before the disaster strikes.

Resilience isn't built during a disaster; it’s built long before it begins. Read how local leadership and timely information are saving lives in Nepal.

45-year-old Gamana Ojha from Duwali village, Bajhang, shows us what she keeps in her Go Bag; small items that can make a big difference in times of disaster.

As a member of the Mothers Group, Gamana recently participated in sessions under the funded Pratibaddha Project, where she learned about disaster preparedness, the importance of a Go Bag, and forecast-based action.

In many homes, women are the first responders when disaster strikes. Their awareness, preparedness, and quick decisions can save lives. Strengthening their access to risk information is not just important-it’s essential.

Because preparedness starts at home. 💛

At People in Need (PIN), we believe that knowledge and technical expertise should be shared, multiplied, and carried forward into communities where they can spark meaningful change.
This Sunday, at the request of 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐲𝐨𝐥𝐦𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐡, our 𝐆𝐄𝐃𝐒𝐈 & 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐤𝐲𝐢 𝐃𝐨𝐥𝐦𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐚 volunteered to conduct an orientation session on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) for the members of the Hyolmo community.
We appreciate the proactive leadership of 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐲𝐨𝐥𝐦𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐡, whose commitment to empowering and strengthening their community, especially women, is commendable.
The session highlighted key GEDSI concepts, explored barriers to inclusion, and encouraged reflection on how communities can foster safer, more equitable, and inclusive environments for all. The active participation and critical reflections from the women made the session even more meaningful.
We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and support such purposeful initiatives.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫?
Representing People in Need, Kabin Maharjan presented his research paper titled “𝐷𝑒𝑐𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑆𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠, 𝐼𝑛𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑓𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑠: 𝐻𝑦𝑑𝑟𝑜-𝑠𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝐷𝑦𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑦𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑐 𝐺𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑁𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑙’𝑠 𝑀𝑖𝑑𝑑𝑙𝑒 𝐻𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑠”at the national symposium on “Transforming Local Water Security: Connecting Research, Action, and Policy.”

The symposium, organised on 20 March during the Nepal National Glacier Water and Weather Week, brought together diverse stakeholders to reflect on Nepal’s evolving water challenges.

At the event, he highlighted spring systems-vital yet often overlooked sources that sustain nearly 10 million people and are now rapidly declining.
His key insight: water conflict is not just about scarcity. It is shaped by governance, power dynamics, and coordination gaps. As these spring systems remain “invisible,” managing them becomes increasingly complex amid changing socio-economic and environmental realities.

💧 As we mark , it is clear that addressing water insecurity requires moving beyond technical fixes toward inclusive, adaptive, and well-connected governance systems for equitable and climate-resilient water management.
