Dear All,

As you are aware, the recent events in Nepal have left behind a heavy toll — over 70 lives lost, more than 2,000 injured, and extensive damage to public infrastructure. We extend out deepest condolences go out to the families affected.

Although the lives lost in the tragic events are irreplaceable, we can still take part to support rebuilding of the public physical infrastructures. AITAAN is starting a fund raiser to help support the Government of Nepal's recovery efforts. The collected funds will be used to support in the Reconstruction of damaged structures and equipment and other essential resources during the protest either by depositing in the Government of Nepal’s "Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund", under the Ministry of Finance or directly supporting the affected institution, like Nepal Police or Government institutions.

We request all alumni to contribute whatever you can. Every contribution matters.

AIT Alumni Association Nepal on behalf of all AIT Alumnus, express our deepest sorrow at the tragic events of September 8, 2025, when protests across Nepal were met with excessive force, leading to the deaths of at least 19 young citizens and injuries to many more.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured. The loss of so many young lives is not only a profound personal tragedy but also a great loss to the nation, our youth are the future and their untimely deaths leave a void that cannot be filled.

We call upon the concerned authorities to ensure accountability, to uphold the principles of justice and dignity and to create avenues for meaningful engagement with the voices of Nepal’s youth. The future of our country depends on fostering trust, compassion and respect between citizens and the state.

May the departed souls rest in peace and may this tragic moment serve as a reminder of the urgent need for a more just and empathetic society.

A very big Congratulations and best wishes

Dr. Krishna Prasad Timsina, an AIT alumnus (Ph.D. in Agribusiness Management, 2015), has been appointed Executive Director of the Nepal Agricultural Research Council/NARC/नेपाल कृषि अनुसन्धान परिषद्

Established in 1991 under the "Nepal Agricultural Research Council Act – 1991," NARC is an autonomous organization dedicated to conducting agricultural research aimed at improving the economic well-being of the people. It plays a vital role in addressing key agricultural challenges, supporting policy development, and advancing the sector.

AIT congratulates Dr. Timsina on this prestigious appointment and wishes him continued success in his new role.

Mr. Devendra Kumar Sharma, an esteemed AIT alumnus (Master of Engineering in Water Resources Engineering, 1983) and Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, India, has been elected President of the International Commission On Large Dams : ICOLD - CIGB during its 93rd Annual Meeting and 28th Congress held in Chengdu, China.

ICOLD, comprising 106 member countries, serves as a global platform for the exchange of knowledge on dam planning, design, construction, and safety. Established in 1928, the organization promotes advancements in dam engineering with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

AIT congratulates Mr. Sharma on this prestigious achievement and wishes him great success in his new role.
