The first ever "Sharing of Solid Waste Management(SWM) practices in between two sister cities - Kathmandu Metropolitan City and City of Fredericksburg, VA, USA" was conducted last week, February 9,2023.
There were several solid waste management stakeholders attended from both the cities. Honourable Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw, City of Fredericksburg, Honourable Sunita Dongol, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City had welcome remarks at the beginning of the session. Ms. Sarita Rai, former chief of Environment Management Department has presented about onging practices of SWM in Kathmandu and Mr.Mathew Kelly, Councilman at Large led the team for sharing the happenings of waste management, recycling, composting, recovering and landfill site management with several boards and private haulers.
Scot Delishi, President, Fredericksburg - Nepal Exchange, US Ambassador (ret) has gave away special remarks after the presentatins and interaction. There were a presence of Mr. Basanta Adhikari, Chief Administration Officer, KMC and Er. Rabin Man Shrestha, present Chief of Environment Management Department and team members from Kathmandu Fredericksburg Sister City Fredericksburg Kathmandu Sister City. Mr. Nabin Bikash Maharjan,chair of Kathmandu Fredericksburg sister city, conducted the discussion session and Ms. Sunita Dongol, Deputy Mayor, Kathmandu Metropolitan City gave away closing remarks.
