NNSM and NRNA entered into an MoU for partnership

National Network for Safe Migration (NNSM) and Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) have formalized their partnership through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for collaboration to foster close cooperation, exchange of knowledge, bilateral communication, and joint advocacy to ensure the protection and well-being of Nepali migrant workers and the members of their family on 16 March 2026 during the 12th NRN Global Conference & NRNA International General Assembly held on 14-16 March 2026 in Kathmandu.

"Sharing on Contemporary Issues of Foreign Employment by Private Sector Stakeholders" - 23 February 2026

National Network for Safe Migration-NNSM organized an event entitled "Sharing on Contemporary Issues of Foreign Employment by Private Sector Stakeholders" on 23 February 2026 in Kathmandu. Representatives from Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT), Insurance and Health sectors shared their perspectives and experiences related to foreign employment while representatives of the civil society, media and trade union exchange their ideas on the contemporary labour migration governance.

The event highlighted key challenges and proposed ways forward to strengthen migration governance. The event concluded with the note to work together for the promotion of an integrated digital based foreign employment-related services with sincerity and honesty in taking up the responsibility to make progress on the localization of migration governance among others.

The event was supported by ILO Nepal’s Migrant Rights and Decent Work (MiRiDeW) Project Phase II funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

National Network for Safe Migration-NNSM organized a "Consultation on National Labour Migration Policy, 2082" on 16 February 2026 in Kathmandu. The event highlighted key provisions, priorities, and strategic directions outlined in the policy. Participants discussed opportunities and challenges as well as ways forward for its effective implementation.

The event was supported by ILO Nepal’s Migrant Rights and Decent Work (MiRiDeW) Project Phase II funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Coordination Meeting with Stakeholders - 22 January 2026
"Reshaping Foreign Employment Narratives"

National Network for Safe Migration-NNSM successfully organized a Stakeholder Coordination Meeting on 22 January 2026 in Kathmandu, focusing on “Reshaping Foreign Employment Narratives.”

Ms Babita Basnet, Senior Journalist, shared her experiences and called for reshaping the social narrative around foreign labour migration. The discussion brought together young women media personnel from diverse media institutions. The forum discussed on the role of media and the deconstruction of the media narratives on the foreign employment.

The event was supported by GSIF Nepal.

Late Post: Indo-Nepal Peer to Peer Exchange | 11-12 December 2025 | New Delhi

National Network for Safe Migration-NNSM team participated in a two day 'Regional Exchange & Networking for CSOs working on Migration and Labour Mobility' held during 11-12 December 2025 in New Delhi, India. The Exchange brought together CSOs from India and Nepal, Media, and International Organizations.

Following sessions were observed during the event:
• Capacity Development Sessions: Practical workshops on proposal writing, fundraising strategies, and effective communication.
• Knowledge Exchange: Case study presentations, experience sharing, and discussions on innovative approaches to care migration and labour mobility.
• ILO Contribution: Presentations and engagement from ILO representatives from India and Nepal, sharing regional perspectives and linking CSOs to broader labour mobility frameworks.
• Media Engagement: Networking with journalists to strengthen storytelling, advocacy, and visibility of CSOs initiatives.
• Networking Opportunities: Facilitated sessions to connect CSOs, media, and international actors, fostering long-term cross-border partnerships.

As part of the week-long celebration of International Migrants Day 2025, National Network for Safe Migration-NNSM organized a "Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on No Debt Liabilities for Migrant Workers to Pursue Foreign Employment" on 22 December 2025 in Kathmandu. The consultation featured presentation on drivers of indebtedness among Nepali migrant workers seeking foreign employment, along with possible ways forward. It brought together representatives from government and non-government organizations, trade union, civil society, development partners, local governments, academia, researchers and media. The event was supported by ILO Nepal’s Migrant Rights and Decent Work (MiRiDeW) Project Phase II funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
