Studies show that about 37% of women in Nepal are married before the age of 18, with even higher rates in the Terai.
Early marriage often forces girls to drop out of school, face early pregnancy, and struggle with health and economic challenges. Every girl deserves education, freedom, and the opportunity to decide her own future.

नेपालमा विवाहको कानुनी उमेर २० वर्ष नै कायम रहनुपर्छ। कम उमेरमा विवाह हुँदा बालिकाहरू शिक्षा अधुरै छोड्न बाध्य हुन्छन्, स्वास्थ्य जोखिम बढ्छ, र हिंसा तथा दमनको सिकार हुन्छन्। शिक्षा पहिलो, विवाह पछि!

विवाहको उमेरहद २० वर्ष नै कायम राख्न अपिल ।

मुलुकी देवानी संहिता, २०७४ को दफा ७० उपदफा १ (घ) अनुसार विवाहको उमेर २० वर्ष पुरा भएको भनी व्यवस्था रहेकोमा प्रतिनिधी सभाको कानुन, न्याय तथा मानव अधिकार समितिले गठन गरेको उपसमितीले २०८१ माघ २ गते विवाहको उमेरहद २० वर्षबाट घटाएर १८ वर्षमा झार्न दिएको सुझाव प्रती हाम्रो गम्भीर ध्यानाकर्षण भएको छ । अध्ययन, अनुसन्धान तथा वैज्ञानिक तथ्यका आधारमा कानुनी रुपमै विवाहको उमेर २० वर्ष तय गरिएकोमा कानुन बनाउने तहबाटै एकाएक उक्त उमेर १८ वर्षमा झार्ने बहस अगाडी बढनु दुःखद रहेको छ ।

बालबालिकाको शिक्षा, प्रजन्न स्वास्थ्य, मानसिक तथा शारीरिक परिपम्वता, सम्मानयुक्त पारिवारिक वा सामाजिक जीवनयापन, बालअधिकार, किशोरकिशोरीको अधिकारलाई ध्यानमा राखी कानुनी रुपमा नै नेपालमा विवाहको उमेर २० वर्षपछिलाई तोकिएको तथ्य सर्ववितिदै छ । यसरी वैज्ञानिक आधारमा तय गरिएको २० वर्षपछिको विववाह योग्य उमेरलाई १८ वर्षमा झार्ने वहसलाई पूर्णविराम दिन जोडदार दिन माग गर्दछौ । यस सम्बन्धमा बाल विवाह अन्त्यका लागि क्रियाशिल बालबालिकातथा किशोरकिशोरीका प्रतिनिधित्व गर्ने क्ल्व, समुह, संजालहरु, नागरिक समाजका संघसंस्थाहरु तथा अगुवाहरुसंग छलफल गरी सुझाव लिन समेत अनुरोध गर्दछौं ।
