Today we join the global community in recognizing World Lung Cancer Day — a moment to raise awareness about lung health, early detection, and access to treatment.

While lung cancer and tuberculosis (TB) are distinct diseases, they share more than symptoms — they share risk factors, diagnostic challenges, and the need for strong health systems. TB can increase the risk of developing lung cancer, and both conditions often go undetected until it's too late.

At TBPeople.Global, we believe that protecting lung health means seeing the full picture** — from prevention and care to advocacy and equity.

Let’s use this day to:
🔹 Promote awareness of lung cancer risks
🔹 Advocate for early screening and diagnosis
🔹 Highlight the intersection of TB and other lung diseases
🔹 Support those affected by TB and lung cancer alike

Together, we can build a future where every breath counts.

📢 Today, June 20th, marks World Refugee Day. 🌍

On this important day, we stand in solidarity with millions of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) worldwide. Their resilience in the face of unimaginable challenges is truly inspiring.

For communities like , World Refugee Day also serves as a crucial reminder of the unique vulnerabilities refugees and IDPs face regarding tuberculosis. Often living in difficult conditions, with limited access to essential healthcare services, they are at a higher risk of contracting and transmitting TB. They also frequently encounter stigma and discrimination, which can be significant barriers to diagnosis and treatment.

Let's work together to ensure that no one, regardless of their displacement status, is left behind in the fight against TB. Every person deserves the right to health and a life free from TB.

I am Pervaiz Tufail from TBpeople Pakistan. ravaged my family for generations, claiming my grandmother and a young cousin. When I developed symptoms, my medical student brother recognized the signs and rushed me to a public hospital, where I was diagnosed and started on a rigorous nine-month treatment. As we were poor, wealthy neighbors sponsored my medication and the nutritious diet essential for recovery. Despite the stigma and extended treatment, my family's support helped me defeat TB. Now, I'm dedicated to TB awareness, education, and advocacy.

The Challenge Facility for Civil Society ( ) and community involvement have been instrumental in helping me promote TB-led community-based and community engagement initiatives in Pakistan. I developed TBpeople Pakistan, the first and only registered organization in Pakistan led by people living with and affected by TB. CFCS funding helped TBpeople Pakistan create an active, effective, and meaningful engagement model centered on people with TB. This included TB education and literacy programs, people with TB-led advocacy, peer support mechanisms, care and support systems for key and vulnerable populations and healthcare providers, and support groups for families affected by TB.

An incentive-based approach, including transportation, medication, and nutritional support, was provided to engage TB champions in mobilization, peer education, advocacy, and community-led monitoring. Currently, 500 people with TB and their families are registered members of TBpeople Pakistan, including 218 TB champions.

I’m a proud TB survivor and chose not to stay silent. I opted for storytelling and shared my TB journey on local, national, and global platforms to raise awareness and advocate for TB. I want others to know: TB is treatable – when met with courage, care, and early action – not fear.

📢 I am Rajesh Didiya , Chair of TB People Nepal , and I want to share a crucial perspective on our fight against TB.

Being a service provider and a person with lived experience of TB in a low- and middle-income country like Nepal is incredibly challenging. Stigma is a constant, major hurdle in daily life, affecting every aspect from seeking care to reintegrating into society.

For communities like ours, the Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS), a vital project from the Stop TB Partnership, has been a true lifeline. It provides essential support, empowering us to fight stigma, advocate for our rights, and deliver critical services to those affected by TB.

However, we are now facing a severe threat: the widening funding gap. This gap is harming people affected by TB even more profoundly than stigma itself, especially in low-income countries where resources are already stretched thin. Without sustained investment, the progress we've made is at risk, and lives hang in the balance.

We urge global leaders and donors to recognize the immense value of community-led responses and to commit, invest, and deliver the resources needed to truly for everyone. Our communities are on the front lines, and we need your support more than ever.

I am Mona Balani, a and advocate from India. My journey with tuberculosis has been deeply personal and profoundly painful. I have faced TB twice—once as pulmonary TB, and again as extra-pulmonary abdominal TB. Each time, I fought hard, not just for my life, but for my dignity.

But my battle didn't end there. I lost my younger son and my husband to TB. Losing them was not just a personal tragedy—it was a wake-up call. A reminder that TB is not just a medical issue, it’s a social injustice !! fueled by stigma, poverty, and silence.

Despite my pain, I chose to stand up. I turned my grief into purpose. I work with communities across India, especially women and youth living with HIV and TB, to ensure no one else suffers in silence. I advocate for treatment literacy, access to diagnostics, and community-led care.

The Challenge Facility for Civil Society ( ) from Stop TB Partnership has played a transformative role in this journey. With CFCS support, we have been able to build the capacity of grassroots TB networks, raise our voices at national forums, and ensure our experiences shape policies, not just statistics. Community-led responses are not a side note; they are the backbone of an effective TB response.

We know the faces behind TB. They are mothers, sons, daughters, workers, students. TB has a face and it is " mine and billions more in the country" I share my story to remind the world that behind every number is a human being, and behind every survivor is the potential to lead, to fight, and to change the course of this epidemic.

Together, with compassion and commitment, we can make TB history.
