Bagmati UNESCO Club To promote the aims and objectives of United Nations and it's system in persurance of it's vision and guiding principles

Since the first UNESCO Club in Japan was founded in 1947, Clubs, Centers and Associations for UNESCO have been invaluable partners for the Organization. Members of the club movement, who are all volunteers, include people of all ages and nationalities from all walks of life. They share a commitment to UNESCO's ideals and work to translate them into reality on the ground. Members are therefore well

placed to present civil society views to decision-makers. In the half century that the UNESCO Clubs movement has existed, the world has witnessed a wide range of events related to each of UNESCO's fields of competence. The goals of the organization is to:
Promote the ideals, objectives and programs of UNESCO; promote international understanding and education, particularly with a view to the effective exercise of human rights, the endogenous development of each people and the construction of a new world economic and social order, and to pursue these objectives also in nations and peoples, particularly in order to advance mutual understanding between the different cultures of the world; involve people in UNESCO's work, particularly at the grassroots level; promote the use of science and technology for peaceful purposes, for the welfare of humanity and, in particular, of developing countries;

On Buddha Jayanti, we walked into the United Nations and invited nuclear leaders to a meditation retreat in Lumbini.

We're not joking. 😌

Eighty years of negotiations. 85 seconds on the Doomsday Clock. AI already inside nuclear command systems. We said what needed saying β€” on the record, in New York, for every child who trusts the sky.

Nepal has never built a nuclear weapon. Never threatened a neighbor. We don't need to. We have something older and more powerful than any arsenal.

Panchasheel. Ahimsa. Karuna.

The Doomsday Clock is at 85 seconds.
The meditation hall in Lumbini has no clock at all.

Namo Buddhaya. Shanti. Shanti. Shanti

Before 27th March, 2021, a group of young people decides that they’re going to take the city of Hetauda and the voices of young people to the United Nations πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡³ Little did they knew, they’d be making their strides towards the General Assembly Hall on Buddha Jayanti, to deliver a statement at the Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

We, today, can proudly speak for ourselves that we have cleared stage 1 of what we intend to deliver. The voices from Hetauda has reached the great Hall of the General Assembly of the United Nations πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡³

Marking the first engagement of Bagmati UNESCO Club at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, we are very thankful to each supporting hand that has helped us evolve.

πŸŽ™οΈ A powerful message from across the globe.

We are honoured to share a special video message from Hon. David Shoebridge, Australian Greens Senator and tireless advocate for peace, disarmament, and human rights β€” delivered in solidarity with the Bagmati UNESCO Club and our side event at the NPT NGO Session.

Senator Shoebridge reminds us that the call to abolish nuclear weapons is not a distant ideal β€” it is an urgent, moral, and political responsibility that belongs to all of us, from Kathmandu to Canberra.

πŸ•ŠοΈ From the Himalayas to the halls of international diplomacy, our voices for peace are united.
